It actually reminds me alot of Legend of Mana. Similar style and lots of little quests.

Runescape = Crappy game
Maple Story = Runescape with pretty graphics and even less in-depth

sorry if i insulted any hardcore maple story'ers but i just can't stand the game.

Or maybe both? Ya know... like... a smart person would do.

Same here regarding tRO and the coming wipe.

The EXP curve is extreme in Maple Story, however. I'm sure people have found legit ways to climb all the way to Level 70, but they must either party a lot or have awesome equipment. One or the other.

I used to play.

They had a rule. "No botting". Can't play without being physically at the keyboard. Okay, that makes sense, they don't want people making programs to play for them and leaving them on overnight to get ahead.

...Rules clarification comes. "No botting" includes putting a stapler on your attack key.

They had to specifically mention that one.

People were getting ahead by puting something heavy on one key and leaving it overnight.

You can play this game by holding down one key for hours at a time.

Eventually, I went on and decided to go find a game that needed more intelligence to play than is possesed by office supplies.

Well, the EXP gain per kill in Maple Story goes pretty much like this:

1 to 5: fast enough you won't really notice
6: 2%
10: 1%
15: 0.3%
25: 0.1% if you dare to kill monsters a bit high for that level
Higher: I never got that far so I wouldn't know, but it most likely gets even worse
But apparently, some people still reached pretty high levels (like above 70) after forever enough

And yeah, I know almost every online RPG tends to have excessively long levels to keep people playing for months or even years (if they don't get bored, that is), but even Ragnarok Online at 1x EXP isn't as slow as that

EVERY. DAMN. MMORPG...

Still though, because of party dynamics, I can play XI, tRO got boring because the only person I knew on there was Grey. Although because of the wipe about to happen, I might join in again and hope that I can find enough time to play.

Ah, MapleStory. I used to play that some time ago with two friends of mine. Eventually we all stopped playing*, but they returned to play; I, on the other hand, could not.
For some reason my ISP doesn't allow access to their website, so I can't redownload the client. But that's not all, my account is gone as well, and I can't register a new one.
I suppose that I could use a proxy, but using a proxy for an online game isn't wise. I have no choice but to...not play.

I e-mailed my ISP asking why it was blocked, but I never got any replies. Some ISP...

* It just got _too_ tedious... leveling up is boring in any game, MS not being an exception.

The game's a Korean RPG, yeah. Also does well in Japan from what I remember.

The crowded maps are a big problem - you don't want to be standing there trying to be the first to hit an enemy once it appears. I *think* that the number of enemies spawned on a map has to do with the number of people on the map, but still there's not enough to go around.

I played it for a few weeks last October when there was only one server (I still have the game installed, but outdated), it was pretty fun the first night when I got to Level 15 ... then I realized how insanely long the levels were already getting, my build was screwed up so I started over at 24, and eventually got bored of the slow leveling at 22, which is still pretty low

Killing the same monsters over 1000 times all day long just to gain one level isn't exactly my idea of fun (wait, this sounds like my leveling on twilightRO, but 100 levels lower ), and every single map tends to get crowded, but otherwise it's good ...

I've only noticed a little bit of that going on. And the game is korean?

I played Maple Story a while back... still have it installed.

Basically it was good for the first 2-3 weeks since the user base was still relatively small and most people SPOKE NON-AOL ENGLISH (*shock*), but then it got flooded with all of the "OMG!1! 3 KOREA RPG!11" people who steal kills/items, so... :\

I'd only check it again if channels weren't so damn packed.

I'm on Scania, Ch 1. This game is addictive! It seems rather repetitive though. There's no places to explore or anything.

Seems interesting. I'm still in the Newbie Area. I'm NSNick, but I don't know if you're on my server, Clock, plus I'm not too familiar with the interface yet.

Looks interesting. I'm definitely going to try it out, as I've been looking for a good free MMORPG since they ruined Graal. I have really been looking extra hard since I got DSL last week. Anyway, I'll probably be using the name Foust.

Free MMORPG's (that are good, anyway) are few and far between. That's why I'm posting about Maple Story! It's an incredible 2D side-scrolling RPG world, wherein you get jobs, take quests, slay monsters, sell stuff and hang out and chat! I encourage everyone here to play this game. Go to The Homepage for more info. My Gamertag is Clockworkz, so if you're on, add me to your buddy list
