okay, then you want to use TMPEGEnc--it has a 30 day limit but there is word that there is a work around with a certain version... |

Iceman i'll check yours out. Also FlaskMPEG is just another mpeg to anything else program. I'm looking to change AVI TO MPEG! |

WinAVI Video Converter is the best, but it's not free. It can convert AVIs to VCD, SVCD, DVD, Real Media or Windows Media. |

Whoops, I only linked the original VDub.

See, this is what happens when you're in school all day and your brain goes pfftt...
EDIT: Oh I just woke up this morning...you wanted AVI to MPEG, not MPEG to AVI. VDM alone does that but not the inverse. Shit, and all this time I figured it was that.
Yea, I'd go FlaskMPEG like neo said. I used that for quite a while if not only to rip files from DVDs. |

um...is there just a avi to mpeg convertor out there which is good? It doesn't have to be free. I cba with all this encoder crap and modifying thing. I'll leave virtualdub for now...its to much trouble for what i'm trying to make. |

Unless you modify virtualdub, you can't use it to convert into MPEG (it can read from MPEG though). Therefore, you need to find MPEG encoders. Two that come to mind are FlasKMPEG and TMPEGenc. |

AFAIK VirtualDub is open-source. That would make it very difficult to put spyware in it without people knowing. A lot of people, such as myself, make cool free software because it's fun or because all the existing software for a certain purpose sucks and/or is way expensive. Hence Linux. |

*Edit: I just downloaded it but the help files won't load. I tried messing around with it but can't figure out how to change avi into mpeg. please help,* |

[shrugs] Nero does that by itself. |

but virtualdub requires an MPEG2 encoder to assist you in making a DVD. so, you will also need to find that in addition to virtualdub. |

VirtualDub. Hands down. I can't get up a link, but Google will more than likely link you to it. |
