Ugh. The graphics in the Sonic games are compressed. You need to get a decompressor off a Sonic Rom Hacking site, which at the moment I have no links for. Once decompressing though, it is really unstable as changeing graphics can screw up the whole game. Your best bet is to stick to pallete hacking and not changing graphics. Look on google for Sonic Hacking Resperatory (sp?). |

OK guys, I can see something. Although, as in every other freakin rom Ive opened, I can only see the letters or japanese alphabet clearly. Though I have spotted what seems to look like the very top of Sonic's head (as in 1 tile high x 3 tiles wide, this is 8x8 tiles). OK, so it is REALLY scattered around, I don't know HOW Sega can deal with this.  |

Check if the graphics are visible in a .BIN image (non-interleaved). |

Sounds like compression to me. I know there are specific tools for this, but they only work with Sonic 1 and 2. |

Hi guys. Im trying to see if I can get proper-looking GFX from Sonic 3 on YY-CHR. I don't know if Im doing something wrong but...
I open Gens, not Genecyst (I pray to all the Gods from every religion that I don't have to use this, it just doesn't work at all on my computer) and make a savestate. I open YY-CHR with this savestate and set the format to MSX (Genesis). Unless its all really scattered, I can't see any good GFX. In a desperate attempt I tried opening the ROM itself but no luck. Any ideas and/or n00b criticisms? |
