By "labels" you mean the names, or the lettering?
I'll assume you are using Windows.
- Open "My Computer"
- Find the drive you want to rename
- Right mouse click on it, and select "Rename"
- Type in the new name for the drive
That should work in Windows XP, and 2000, and probably other versions of Windows too, but I can't be 100% sure off the top of my head.
If you want to change the drive lettering, do the following:
- Right mouse click on "My Computer"
- Select "manage"
- Computer Management will then open -- select "Disk Management" from the left hand side of the window
- Find the drive you wish to reletter and right mouse click on it
- Select "Change Drive Letter and Paths" (might be worded slightly differently)
- It should bring up another window. Make sure you highlight the drive, then click "Change" (again may be worded slightly differently depending on your version of Windows)
- There will be a drop down box from which you can select drive letters -- pick one.
- That's about it....
Hope that helps. Obviously I'm working off Windows XP, but I know that there are slight wording differences in Windows 2000 that tend to throw a few people, and I'm not sure about other versions of Windows off the top of my head.
If you wanted a non Microsoft based operating system... I'm not quite sure. It's fairly easy to rename your drive in OS X, but let me know if you need to know. |
