This is a rather obscure question but I was wondering if anyone knows a way in C to 'listen in' to the phone line using a modem. What I mean is the program needs to be able to hear what's being said but not actually pick up until instructed to do so. The idea is to make something similar to one of those automated menus (press one for this, two for that, yadda yadda). Since it's not really important I don't want to buy a second phone line just for it, but if the computer picks up the answering machine won't work. The plan is to have the computer just kinda listen when someone else (such as the answering machine) picks up, and when I press a certain key combo (BTW, any DTMF recognition code would be appreciated as well) the computer takes over. (The answering machine hangs itself up if someone else picks up, so no problem there.)
If nothing else, I might be able to rig up something using a microphone instead of a modem for the listening part, but I still need to be able to detect incoming calls and listen for DTMF codes, neither of which I've done before. |
