Rammstein were formed with the intention to make authentic German music. When they formed, Nu Metal was only in it's infancy in the US. The founding members of Rammstein were all in agreement that the projects they undertook before Rammstein all failed because they had too many American influences.

Rammstein also have no rap, hip-hop or urban traces in their music. They have no MC or DJ. They have none of the heriatage that can be found in Nu Metal music.
Wikipedia defines Nu Metal as:
"Nu metal (standing for "New Urban" Metal, aka aggro metal) is a controversial subgenre of heavy metal music. It sometimes bears some influence from hip-hop, because rhythmic innovation and syncopation are primary. Nu metal bands also feature aggressive vocals (either rapped, shouted, or sung), drop-tuned guitars that are clean or distorted, (with riffing similiar to the Seattle scene of the early 1990's) a funk-based rhythm section, and occassional DJ techniques such as turntables and sampling." Rammstein exibit very few of these hallmarks.

Finally, the Wikipedia entry describes them as:

"Although it cannot really be said that Rammstein stick to any particular genre of music, they are most often described as an industrial band; they are also often associated with heavy metal and hard rock."

Overall, Rammstein are one of the bands that are criminally mis-labeled because their music proliferated at the time that a high-profile music movement reached it's peak. Among their most hardcore fans and it's band members:

"Rammstein ist Rammstein" - Richard Z. Kruspe-Bernstein

My band's DVD is coming out next summer. Our two taped performances and an interactive discography. You'll see!

I'm somewhat doubtful you could beat the Iron Maiden performance I saw

Of course, you can have a good stage show without many theatrics or props... But Dillinger Escape Plan takes the cake there, in my opinion.

I've never seen Rammstien live, but I've heard things, and they sound good. Thier studio work is nu-metal with a nice dose of industrial / electronic influences. Heavy but catchy. I dig it.

Interesting fact: Zwitter means Hermaphrodite.

I have Mutter, Sensuchht, and Ohne Dich. I personally am a fan of Mutter, but the other two are good.

Rammstein were awesome They're still the most amazing live band on the planet today. The music, the show, the band, they were all so dedicated to putting on a bloody good performance. Definately a better playlist than last time, but not as good as my first. I'm not all that attached to the new material off Reise, Reise, but I like the title track, Mein Teil, Amerika, Ohne Dich and Keine Lust.

Set List:
Hezeleid: Rammstein, Asche Zu Asche, Du Reisct So Gut
Sehnsucht: Du Hast, Sehnsucht, Stripped
Mutter: Links 2,3,4, Sonne, Ich Will, Freuer Frei
Reise, Reise: Reise, Reise, Mein Teil, Amerika, Keine Lust, Ohne Dich, Morgenstern, Los, Stein Um Stein
As-yet-unnamed: Benzin

Piccys:

Face flamethrowers for Freuer Frei!

The band and the set. As you can see I'm on Richard's side of the stage, as I am always

Ticker-tape parade for Amerika. Flake has a keyboard attached to a Segway.

Oli, the Bassist, takes to the famous dinghy for Stripped. Traditionally it is used for Seemann, but they play Stripped for the fans instead.

Another of the band at the end of Stripped

The set and Cardiff International Arena at the end.

Man, Rammstein has some hardcore tunes. They were in the beginning of Triple X (its that movie with Vin Disel). They are crazy!

Not quite detrimental. I can think of some good nu-metal bands. Static-X (mostly just their first), Raunchy (kinda like SYL meets nu-metal), Disturbed, Korn's first album, Mushroomhead, and Dog Fashion Disco. SOAD's neat on occasion, as is Mudvayne. But I regress; you'll still think the same way.

I would argue that they are just hard rock with electronica fucking it.

Nu-metal is a detrimental word designated for crap like System of a Down and Mudvayne.

I'm going to see Rammstein for the third time in July, that's the second time this year I'm a Rammstein nut

My favorite album is very close between Sehnsucht and Mutter. My favorite song is close between Du Hast and Seemann. Herzeleid.net is also one of the best non-official band sites on the net today. I think calling Rammstein nu-metal is a little bit misguided. I wouldn't put them anywhere near the likes of Limp Bizkit, Linkin Park or Static X in terms of musical style -or- reputation. Rammstein are respected amoung hardcore metal fans and newbies alike, which is a remarkable achievement. They have the most awesome stage-show bar none.

Rammstein is pretty flippin cool. I think the CD I have of there's is Sehnsuct and it's good for a listen or two. If I knew what they were saying it would make it much more enjoyable, but from what I hear lots of there songs don't make sense.

And if I had a chance to go to Rammstein concert, there would be no way I would miss it. Cuz I've heard they rock hard.

Well that was quick.

I like Rammstein. Between Mutter and Sehnsuct, I can't decide which album of theirs is the best. I still need to see them in concert too.

More or less probing... Of course Du Hast was probably one of the most repetitive songs by Rammstein it was still a good song. Feyer Frei was also a good song by them. But if I was gonna listen to a foreign band I would listen to Cradle Of filth.

So, in a nutshell, it's lyrics suggest Alienic confrontation? Like aliens testing on humans, right?

Industrial, no. Nu-metal with electronics, yes.

For translations that make sense, just go to herzeleid.net.

They're a good band, by the way. Very solid. And according to that site, they're already mixing a new album set to come out in the fall. Interesting.

They're not even metal, are they?

I thought they were just heavy industrial or something like that.

Eh. Rammstein is ok. I can bear listening to it and some of their songs sound kinda cool. They got nothing on real metal, though.

In exact German to English it means:

Bend you, instruction I dir;wende your face from mir;dein face is me egal;bueck dich!Ein Zweibeiner off on all Vieren;ich lead it spazierenim passgang the corridor entlang;ich are comes disappoint now it backwards me remains entgegen;Honig at the sock volume kleben;ich are disappointed, totally disappoint-bend you... the face interests me not that Zweibeiner has itself gebuecktin a good light gerueckt;zeig I it, which one makes kannund catch thereby to cry on that two-foot master ELT a Gebet;aus fear, because me more badly he go-tries it, deeply to still bend-water itself runs highly back-bends you... bends you, instruction I dir;wende your face from mir;dein face off is me egal;bueck you still einmal!Bueck you.

Bend you, instruction I you;
your face turns off from me;
your face is all the same to me;
bend you!
A Zweibeiner on all four;
I lead it walk
in passgang the corridor along;
I am disappointed.
Now it comes to meet backwards me;
Honey remains sticking at the sock volume;
I am disappointed, totally disappoints.
Bend you...
The face does not interest me.
The Zweibeiner bent
into a good light moved;
show I it, which one can make
and catch thereby to cry on.
The two-foot master ELT a prayer;
from fear, because I more badly am
tries he, to still bend deeply.
Tears run highly the backs.
Bend you...
Bend you, instruction I you;
your face turns off from me;
your face is all the same to me;
bend you again!
Bend you

As seen here.

Funny translation though ... I doupt that's 100% correct.
