The only gimmick I can think of is that there's a LOT of optional stuff. I still think there should have been more dungeons. Like, at least eight. |

Anyways, remakes have the 1 or 10 essence. Either it can be really bad or really good. Things like the Classic NES series kind of weird me out... There's nothing added to the game. But Super Mario 64 DS really rocked my socks. It took a great game and made it even better.
I'm hoping for 3-D Zelda remakes for the DS 'caz that all Nintendo will probably be doing for awhile. With their Revolution coming out, they are probably designing a Zelda for that, and they still have Twighlight Princess on their back.
Lets hope Nintendo finds an even balance between releasing 2-D and 3-D Zelda games.

But they need to do it right, and a Zelda game wouldn't be an exception!
I say add all the 64DD stuff. The few things they left in the ROM are very intruiging. |

I'm sure Nintendo will keep 2D games of some sort on their handhelds for a long time to come. I also believe I heard the DS Zelda game was 2D. |

I, unfortunatly, found The Minish Cap to be very short. Although it was a great game, I felt that it needed more than 4 main dungeons. While playing, I was hoping for some sort 'Dark World'-esque thing where you get the 4 essences, and then you get 'warped' to an alternate world and have to get several more. Also, I found some of the sidequests a little monotonous. That figurine stuff was really irritating. ...Back on topic... I really hope that another 2D Top-Down Zelda game is released. Quite frankly, I never really got into the N64 games, and I am yet to try the Gamecube one. |

Same thing with Metroid, and that's why a new 2D one's in development for the DS. And it'll probably be the same thing with Castlevania, at least on portable consoles.
2D likely isn't going to die... it may well become a gaming niche, but there will always be games which are better when executed in 2D. And as long as people keep buying the games like Ziff said, the genre can still survive for a little while. |

Top down Zelda games are here to stay.
As long as the fans show a great enough desire and a definitive niche for purchasing them...Then I suppose that they will continue to be developed and sold. |

SM64DS sucked. They changed stupid things like putting a floor in Tick Tock Clock and a gate at the end of the slide in Tall Tall Mountain, thus ruining several aspects of the game.

A much, much longer remake. |

Well, lack of analog control isn't entirely bad if executed right. The remake of Super Mario 64 was perfect! It's so much easier than using a D-Pad while playing the Super Mario 64 ROM. The Zelda coming for the DS won't be a Four Swords game (which I'm thankful for,) but I havn't heard anything about being 2D or 3D. I love both, really. But if it's a 2D game, they'd have to have a huge side-quest (like collection shards in Minnish Cap) to keep the game long. Minnish Cap was short, but did last quite a long time. |

Ok!
What would be the use of an Ocarina of Time remake on DS? It would always be worse than the origina due to the lack of analog control. They'd better make a complete new 3D Zelda game for DS that was created for the handheld's unique features. |

I guess a 2-D Zelda game for the DS is going to happen, but I wish Nintendo would at least release an Ocarina of Time remake. I'm really partial to the 3-D Zelda games 'caz thats what I grew up with before I even knew about the old Zelda games.

The Link's Awakening areas weren't really side-scrolling... I mean, they were but they weren't really different from the transition areas in Legend of Zelda.
...Aside from the fact they housed Goombas and Piranha Plants. |

Unless LADX has more than one bonus dungeon, then no, it wasn't side-scrolling. |

Parts of the Oracle games were side-scrolling...and those areas in Zelda 1 where you find some of the items in dungeons, but I don't think those count.
Yeah, it's very possible that there will be a "2D Revival" of sorts at some point in the future. A lot of the 2D games are still very popular. |

You never know, it could just have some "3D Dungeons" or something.
Don't forget LA had those sidescrolling moments, and even the bonus dungeon for LA DX that was entirely sidescrolling, from what I've heard. |

Was four swords 3D? Nope... it wasn't.
Infact I bet that 2D games will start returning with time again. I doubt they stop with top-down zelda althought i'm not too surprised if they make it with a few 3D effects. |

Yeah, I thought I remember hearing the Zelda DS game will be top down also.
I hope it is, I've always prefered Zelda games to be in the top down fashion. |

And you could also take a look at those great Zelda III hacks that are currently being worked on.
As for myself, I think the DS version of Zelda will in fact be 2D. But we'll see that sometimes next year I guess. |
