so, how were your files organised? unless someone did shift-del on your directories, it is hard to imagine how exactly they were lost--in all likely hood, majority of the data is still there; you just lost the pointer to them |

Hey, turn down that original cast recording!

TREKKIE MONSTER (sung) The internet is for porn! The internet is for porn! Why do you think the net was born? Porn! Porn! Porn!
Only 30 GB of porn? LIGHTWEIGHT. (Uh, you did recover at least some of what was lost, right?) |

Funny thing about that. My porn and emulators (30gb total) were the only files I didn't lose. |

damn... that's 375% the size of my disk, and 1153% of my own data files (excl. OS)
Was it the removable hard disk that got lost/stolen? If it's just a format/delete problem, those can be easily fixed.... it's super-easy to recover files and the whole filesystem when you use FAT, I dunno about HH's mentioned program, I use ntfsundelete, which probably doesn't have a version for Windows. |

Ouch. What happened? If you used NTFS, you might be able to recover them using RStudio. It worked when I accidentally created an EXT3 filesystem over mine. (NTFS keeps backups of the filesystem, which pwns.) |

I take it this has something to do with that 180GB removable HD you were telling me about? |

Corruption? File system gone screwy on a partition? HD crash? Damn that sucks. I would panic if that happened to me.
Luckily I have a backup... somewhere. |
