I am really thinking of buying a mod. I do not play my PSX hardly anymore, and I think it might be kind of fun to do something to it. What is the sort of recomended chip? And is it cheap, because I do not have very much money right now..

Verbatim CD's are excellent for PSX games. I try to burn at 2x if possible, although 1x would be ideal. Even though that'll take up over an hour of your time. :\

I can't get it lower than 2x. I figured it probably just burned wrong, but I wanted to make sure it's not some sort of protection first.

There's an issue regarding the recording speed - it must be the lowest possible. Recently, I had to re-record a few of my games, the CD was with problems on sound. On re-record, they were gone. I used 4x this time (lowest possible here), against 52x before.

Perhaps it burned incorrect, especialy if it worked on an emulator. I do not have a clue besides that. The burn or the ISO was bad is all that I can think of.

It just doesn't boot. The screen goes black and that's it.

What kind of CD are you using? CD-R no kidding, but..I heard of a black bottom disc, but I forget if it is CD or DVD. I guess it was supposed to be really awesome for burning PS ISOs on to, like it works better some how. I never had the trouble, however. I only burned FF Chronicals and mine does work. What is your trouble HyperHacker??

In fact, I could boot Rockman once again... to get that red prohibited logo (Japanese on American PSX?). Anyway, I couldn't boot it for a SECOND time again.

Come to think of it, I had a bit of trouble with mine. Mine isn't modded, I use the swap trick, and everything I've tried works except Final Fantasy Chronicles. Could the game tell if I had done that? There shouldn't be anything different hardware-wise.

Yes, the CD is playable with a PSX emulator in my PC, and I can even open Windows Explorer to see the CD context... I'm not making a mistake here, the CD was booting fine and NO more now. If the PSOne has some config, it definetely has. If it can identify a certain CD and block it, well... here's the 1st registered case then...

I really doubt it mine hs never done thaat

Copy the contents to another disc, it might not be the entire disc, since I hardly imagine a PSOne might store all files - hence the space on of mamory cards and the maximum size on a CD
Maybe there is a small file which contains information (like wpa.dbl, including the product key/hash in Windows XP for example) and could be replaced by an unaltered one

PSOne might have a bit of onboard SRAM for configuration and such, but I don't think it does. (It's got no configuration that I know of, after all. ) See if you can still read the disc in a PC.

guess your question says the CD is not bootable anymore--my guess is probably has to do with the CD type and the laser. You may just have gotten lucky getting the game to boot up. I'm pretty sure the PSone doesn't have a memory but you never know. I think I remember a game with copy protection but that was only in effect when I had the memory card inserted into the machine. When I took the card out of the machine, it was alright.

Yes, it's copy protection. What I can't understand is... what do make the CD no more bootable? :|

Could there possibly be some copy protection in the game itself that detects whether or not the console's modded? Some games do have that... there's likely ISO patches/Game Shark codes that'll remove it if that's the face.

I used CloneCD to copy Rockman Complete Works (1). When I put the disc on my MODded PSOne, it loded the splash screen (PS logo) and later a black background with a red prohibited symbol + kanji text. The game (CD) was no more bootable since then - the PS doesn't even recognize the CD! :|

In a second try, I used a GameShark disk to boot - I could reproduce the problem (of red 'prohibited' logo), and this CD was no more bootable TOO! :|

Does the PSOne keeps recorded the 'backup' discs? Very strange... Anything?
