Snowbro made tons of game specific level editors, stuff like CVEdit, Goonedit, etc. They are mostly DOS based, and don't run under XP unless you use something like DOSbox. They are available on Zophar's Domain.

The source code to MetEdit was available, but doesn't seem to be on his site anymore. However, I snagged a copy before it disappeared, and uploaded it here.

SnowBro made MetEdit, which was really the first high-quality level editor. If you download that, documentation of how to edit the Metroid ROM is included, but not the source code. However, if you know how to do it, source code isn't necessary.

The ancient Townedit program has source code available, since it IS source code that comes with QBASIC to interpret it.
Even Z2PLEDIT had source avaialble, if you had a copy of QB45 and DirectQB.

SnoBro has the source for TileMolester up for download:
http://www.stud.ntnu.no/~kenth/tm/

And also his XORcyst project:
http://www.stud.ntnu.no/~kenth/xorcyst/index.htm

That's all I could find. Did SnoBro ever make game specific level editors?

I swear I saw the source code to at least one of the editors by SnowBro somewhere (I could be mistaken though), if any of the code for those editors is out there, please do tell me

I suspect also that if the guy who wrote the Zelda 3 editor was still around and you asked nicely, he would probobly give you the source code to that...

3D and VB go together just fine when the 3D is OpenGL or DirectX. I've been using OpenGL.

But I digress! No more off-topic! *Shuts up*

To bad it's written in some form of Egyptian and we don't have the Rosetta Stone for it.

It's not neat but it's comprehensible - parts of my editor (especially level rendering, believe it or not) use code converted from M3I.

It most certainly was. See the thread I posted in this forum a coupla days ago about it: F-Zero X (Heian-794)

And, to keep it on-topic, like you said, I intend to release the source code for it eventually.

EDIT: On an unrelated note, within the time I pressed submit and was redirected here, BGNG made a post.

I think I have the source for all mine on my website. (Not that it would probably be useful, as some of the code is pure bleh)

Not to drag this off-topic, but wasn't F-Zero X for the N64?

SMB3 Workshop's not open source, but send me an email and tell me what you want it for and I'll email the Delphi source to you.

And y'know... I think I'll keep it in Visual Basic code, too. Just to spite the zillions of C++ jerks out there. Not that C++ coders are jerks, mind you, but I've seen plenty of "VB sucks. Go with C++. It ownz j00," and very little of "C++ sucks. Go with VB. It ownz j00."

So, yeah... If you have VB, you'll be able to download the source to the F-Zero X level editor when it's done.

What level/track/area/map/whatever (i.e. game specific) editors have source code available and where can I get it?
