I would, but the only other one around is the one I'm using now, and I don't want to blow it or something stupid like that.

...Oi. Sounds almost like a problem I have. My only guesses would be the controller OR the BIOS, since that runs the memory test. Have you tried the components in a different mobo?

A few days ago I started up my old computer and it booted from a CD just fine. Today, I tried again, and it just won't do it. It can read the hard disk fine but there's no OS on it. CD-ROM, it will detect but can't read from. I've tried all manner of jumper and cable switching. It does boot from a floppy disk alright. The strangest thing is that if I swap in another HD I have, the RAM fails. Usually it passes the memory test, but it crashes and certain letters disappear from the screen. This happens every time that particular HD is connected but it works fine without it. (Except that it won't read the CD-ROM drive, and I've tried 2. It does say it found the drive though.) Am I to assume the IDE controller is screwed up? Any way to fix it?
