I was bored one day, and I asked myself this question: What if you took the graphics of Metroid and placed them in Blaster Master? Well after a night an a half of work, I have a small demo available of the first level that tries hard to look like Brinstar.
Screenshots:
It looks sort of like the start to metroid, except for the tank and grenade enemies.
Too bad you can't get bombs in this game...
When Jason steps on the gold block and presses down, he will activate a warp field and be transported to another location.
I wonder what's in that orb? Too bad you have to find out later as your current weapon can't break it open.
What's behind that wall? How do you even GET behind that wall?
The elevator to what in metroid would be Kraid's Lair. To enter, go to the middle and press down.
Anyway, I haven't decided what direction the hack will go in. I'll say now that this really is basically a graphics swap, and since Metroid has significantly less graphics than Blaster Master, I'll be working with less of them, which is good since I am not exactly good with graphics in the first place. The name of the hack, so far, is called Blastroid.
Feedback is appreciated. If you see any bugs or things that you think don't work well in this concept. Only the first level is done, and it's still a work in progress. I do not plan to graphics hack the overhead sections, but I do plan on editing the levels.
Here's the patch:
I used the NTSC version of the rom.
