Regardless, I hope once SMILE comes to be even more complete we'll start seeing more hacks of Super Metroid.

I think it's one of those games, that has a lot of possibilties with rom hacking, like Zelda 3.

I've played a few hacks, and played a few beta's months ago, but I can't recall ever seeing a complete SM hack, yet.

Actually, it doesn't really surprise me all that much. Even though SMILE is nearing Lunar Magic in awesomeness, Super Metroid is a much more extensive game to hack than Super Mario World, not to mention it's just more awesome. I, for one, am reluctant to hack such an awesome game, since I don't think I could really compare. Plus I know how lazy I am, I'd never finish a hack of this size.

But yeah, gooo Jathys! Making dreams possible and other such happy stuff.

I remember playing the beta of your hack Chill Penguin.

I'll have to check this one out, SMILE's always been that "one" editor that I've alwasy been interested in, and keeping track of. Even though I'm not really into rom hacking anymore, seeing as how nicely this ones coming along I just might attempt something in the future.

It is. As to how to do it though, I don't know. I hope Jathys makes a help tutorial for things like that; I don't know how to mess with multiple pointers all that well. I can't remember how to create new rooms either, but I know it's possible.

Woo hoo! Jathys is about to have another release ready. I'm kinda surprised at how low the number of replies is. I thought Super Metroid hacking was a little bit more popular than this (SMILE is nearly becoming as an extensive hacking tool as Lunar Magic is).

Jathys, I hope you get some more ideas to impliment into the program. I've already given you my fill.

Holy crap, Jathys! Wish I could be able to have the time to hack this summer. SMILE has been updated twice since I've been able to last use it. I'm going to have to go ahead and finish my -R one and start drawing designs for a new one to start.

Have you allowed certain changes to the maps yet? Such as where boss, missile and energy recharges show up on it. I'm downloading it right now, but I'm going to have to get the rom off my computer to do anything.

PM me at Zohpar's. Dial-up is too slow (and easily disconnects) for IRC.

SMILE is now at version 0.40 . . . Here's what's new:
-set bomb timer
-set maximum # of bombs, beams, or missiles Samus can use at once
-easier handling of music control/track
-barrier tiles (you go through them, enemies don't)
-create/load/save enemy palettes to/from Tile Layer

That last one is pretty nice, if I do say so myself. I know SMILE handles palette changes already, but you can't directly see how it's affecting your critter. This helps you visualize the enemy in TLP (correct palettes do that) and also allows you to change palettes knowing exactly what the end results are going to be ahead of time. Save them with TLP, then load them back into SMILE:
