Disable Automatic Frameskipping, if your version of VBA has it.

Try the VBA version that can be found here, it has movie support.

Disable all video and sound filters. (eg. "Simple 2x" etc.)
Set Frame Skip to zero.
Try the different output methods; DirectDraw is usually the fastest.
Use a fullscreen mode.
Try enabling/disabling the "Synchronize Emulation Speed" option.
Disable Triple Buffering and VSync. If it runs fast enough, enable Triple Buffering.
Turn the sound off, or use 11 kHz.
Try setting priority to "Above Normal".

Damn, that "tutorial" just messed things up even more for me, and it seems like it's beyond repair this time. The framerate is jerky like hell now.

I finally got it! I googled "visual boy tutorial", and found exactly what I was hoping to find! A site that listed all of VBA's features and explained what options to select if VBA runs slow. My games are all at perfect speed! Wild pokemon battles still go a little slow, but they're bearable!

Thanks to everyone who posted in this thread. I appreciate your help!

I have the same problem as you with VBA, and I can tell right away it doesn't have much to do with how good your computer is. I've used VBA on a 900mhz, 1.6ghz with a GF2MX, and now a 3ghz with Radeon 9800 Pro, but the framerate is equally shitty on all of them.

I have pretty much the same problem as you, but when I upgraded my Video Card, VBA just a faster. 60FPS (no frameskip) used to produce speeds of 35-50% percent, now it's 50-65 percent.

I use No$GBA and VBA, VBA runs at about 90%-100%, depending on the Game.

No$GBA even works better. (Even run on a P166 with 32MB RAM a Demo* in Black and White). *'cause of support only up to 1 Megabyte

I tried what you said, and it worked pretty good. No$gba is running at about 95%, but the game and sound skips a little, which is pretty annoying.

It can't be the rom. My brother downloaded the exact same rom onto his computer (which is much faster), and it works perfectly. And besides, all of my GBA roms are running slow.

*Drools* I can't wait 'till I upgrade my comp! I'm getting an:
Athlon64 3200+ 939 socket
1024MB DDR 400 Dual RAM (maybe more)
Two... Count 'em, 1, 2 nVidia some graphics cards that once working together are comparable to the Radeon X800, which is right up the top of the list! *Drools again*
And lots of other good stuff!

Anyway, back to the topic: Have you tried altering the resolution/screen size, and filtering 'n stuff? I remember my Secret of Evermore ROM's sound was stuffed. After re-downloading it, it worked fine, so if the sound's only buggered in one ROM, it could be the ROM itself.

I use a PIII with 450MHz and 128 MB of RAM.

Tried it. It only improves the speed a little bit.

Have you tried VisualBoy Advance CE?

It's supposedly built better than the normal versions.
(and runs some games faster, from what I've heard)

Yeah, I got it to work fairly good, except during certain parts of games it goes extremely slow. (like wild pokemon battles in pokemon fire red)

Boycott is older than the others and I wouldn't recommend it only because the compatibility might be a bit off.

Win98 with a P3 and 128MB RAM... you might be cutting it close. Did you play around with frameskip to see if you could get things running a bit more smoothly?

1) Windows 98, Pentium III, 128 ram. It's old, but it's not too bad.

2) Tried it. Too slow. I've tried every emulator on Zophar (except ones that say they only run demos or homebrews). The closest I've gotten is Boycott Advance. The speed is perfect, but the sound is horrible. There's a bunch of screechy noises in the background.

1) What are your computer specs? You should be OK with most computers, but if yours is really, really old...

2) You could always try NO$GBA to see if that works for you.

For some reason, VisualBoy Advance doesn't run GBA games very fast on my computer. It runs GBC games perfectly fine, though. I've tried other emulators, but they're either not fast enough or don't support sound or something. I've also tried adjusting the frame skip and speed throttle, but then it skips way too much. Anyone have a solution?
