The thing I wanted the most was a complete version of Old Age. I've only heard the bootlegged minute-ten long version circulating as an MP3. The curiosity is killing me.

Oh The Guilt was pretty awesome too. I used to have a bootleg version of it, then when I bought the box and heard it in super clear quality, I think I shat my pants... too bad they edited the lighter flicking noises in the beginning, those were kind of cool.

ROCK ROCK ROCK

I really <3 this. I mean, there's so much great stuff they released in this, like Even in His Youth.

Huh, really?

Yeah, I was talking about production quality too (Though I didn't notice any screeching or anything like that)...like I said, Nirvana were really not a "studio slickness" type of band.

Do you understand what I'm trying to say?

I'm not talking about musical quality, I'm talking about the recording quality. I don't know if it's my PC and CD player but most of the songs are filled with lots of screeching and really muffled guitars.

[edit]

Just got done reading the intarweb, it appears disc one and two are actually defective in some copies and are really screechy...

I actually like the bootleg quality of a lot of the tracks on the set. I can understand how some people wouldn't, but Nirvana were really not about studio-perfect production (Despite Nevermind's being VERY overproduced upon a listen now). To me, the perhaps less-than-sterling quality of a lot of the tracks better captures the spirit, if you will, of Nirvana.

A thing that REALLY pissed me off about the set though was that they didn't release the final versions of Even in his Youth, and I Hate Myself and I Want To Die (the final version that was on the Beavis and Butthead Experience CD is SUCH an awesome song, the one from the boxset DOESN'T EVEN COME CLOSE to how good the final version was... same for Moist Vagina), also WHY didn't they release the radio version of Old Age, where Kurt was actually understandable... and lastly no Spank Thru! The studio version kicked ass.

However there are pretty good parts of the boxset however... Rubbing Alcohol in it's own track (instead of being a hidden track after All Apologies in In Utero), VERSE CHORUS VERSE'S STUDIO VERSION, Talk To Me's video on the DVD, as well as the original Sappy on the DVD which was awesome to watch that clip in better quality compared to the bootlegs I've had. Also I enjoyed the acoustic Dumb, Rape Me, and Do Re Mi.

I guess the hype was that everyone thought the b-sides were going to be studio quality, but most of the box set has garbage quality. Man, who the fuck decided to put the shitty Rio versions of "I Hate Myself and Want to Die" and "Moist Vagina" over the final In Utero outtakes that sounded much better?

I thought that's what the deal was...but all I sees is a highly-acclaimed B-sides and rarities set called With the Lights Out. Is that what everyone was getting all excited about like a year ago?

Meh, pfffft.
