I still prefer the hard drive. I already hve a memory stick/mp3 player. They are convient but it kinda sucks to. Mine was 1gb and its now 990 mb, i dunno where the other 10mb went. All so harddrives aarn't that slow if you get aa good cable thaat caan transfer alot. |

external HDDs are notoriously slow--so, if you plan to use them for storage, they work just fine. USB Flash Drives are useful for moving documents larger than a floppy around but cost quite a bit of money for sizes running into 1GB and on. So yeah, if you need large storage solution between desktop and laptop, then an externalized HD is the way to go. Otherwise, a USB Flash Drive is better for you |

It's mostly a matter of convenience. USB sticks are really small, fast and easy to use. I've never really worked with an external HDD, so I can't vouch for them. |

Um, R2H2, that'd be just crazy. You can have a 1 gb memory stick for about 150 or something like that, or have a 120gb for 100. In my book, there's no decision there, just get the one that's cheaper and more memory.
I see your point about the price, i didn't realize that it'd be that big of a difference. I figured with tossing in the casing and cords taht it'd be closer to the price of a regualr external. |

If you don't need a whole lot of space, a USB memory stick might be better. They're really small and about $100 for a gig or two. |

A completely external heard dravie is expensive. I can get a 120gb hard drive and external casing and it will cost me |

I would have thought about getting a completely external drive as well. But maybe he implied that he would install it inside the desktop if he wanted to. |

Firewire is another type of cord that connects the device (DVD/CD Burner, Hard Drive, etc.) to the Mac. It's like the USB cord but not the same. If you mean the physical appearance of the hard drive, there might more than one size, depending on whether it's for a laptop or desktop, I think. Ofr course, if it's intended as an external drive, then you'll need the HD for desktops. As for the cost of the case, it varies. The cost of the case for my DVD burner was about $39.00. The case for the HD may differ. |

Whats a firewire device? Also is there only one size of hard drive? Coz i don't want to get an external case which is to freaking big

Yes, I think it's possible to buy an internal hard drive and get a external case for it. Once you put those together, you can use the new hard drive like an external one, which might be used as a USB or Firewire device. In my case, I did the same for a USB 2.0 OptoRite DVD burner. That's not a hard drive, but you get the idea. |

I have a question concerning these.
I have a laptop and a pc, i'm feed up of transfering files betwwen them all the time and am considering getting an external hard drive.
Is it possible to buy an internal hard drive and buy a extenal case for it? Would I be able to carry it around without it getting broken?
Could someone tell me if this would work? |
