It should be 64 megabit, which is 8MB. The real problem is expansion chips... If you wanted to play, say, Mario Kart, you'd need to use a game which had a DSP1 in it. SMW doesn't use any though (nor any hacks to date that I know of ) so it shouldn't be an issue.

I think you can play SDW:TLC perfectly fine on a NTSC SNES. Not a PAL SNES tho. They are different speeds, and the NTSC (or American) one is faster. And SDW:TLC is the largest hack I know of. Not sure about being able to play 8MB games with no problems tho.

BTW, SDW:TLC is 6MB, and it should play fine. Most hacks are 512KB-2.00MB anyway, so you should have no probelms.

64MB may stand for megabits, but I'm not to sure on this. Just google this stuff for the correct answer's if something sounds abit weird.

I was more concerned with the fact that some of them can be quite large in size. How much does a 64M cart store? I doubt it stands for 64 megabytes.

yup--you just have to load up the hacked ROM instead. After all, the SNES can't tell the difference between original data and hacked data

Does that mean it's also possible to play some of the more sophisticated Super Mario World hacks?

Yes there is. You will need to buy a flash cart.

They are used to take SNES games from the cartridge, and put them on a computer. You can also take the games from the computer and put them in an empty cart (not quite sure how this works). Just search google for FLASH CART or PLAYING SNES ROMS ON A SNES, or somthing along those lines. It shouldn't be to hard to find.

It's possible, thats for sure tho.
