Well the latest news from E3 about the new collection has been released.....

From Gamespot.com

"Sonic Gems Collection brings several classic games to the GameCube. The compilation includes Sonic CD, Sonic Championship, Sonic R, and six Sonic Game Gear titles. Sega also promises some extra features. No release date was given for the game."

Wait did I read that right?

SONIC CD!!!!!! It's REALLY COMING OUT!!!!!!!!!

Yeeees!!!

Of course the rest are a bit of a let down, what other GG games can you put on there, Sonic 2 Mabye?

Sonic the Fighters looks an interesting prospect, but I woldn't have minded Chaotix and Sonic:The Arcade on there.

Mind you I'm happy now. Sonic CD. AT last. COME ON!!!

True the US OST is missing out, but I'd personally say the same for the Japanese OST.

I like them both, a lot. I do think they slightly differ in style though. The Japanese one seems more upbeat and quick paced, more jazzy, while the US one is more beep boppin' (whatever that means).

Besides, as cheesy as the song is, I loved "Sonic Boom".

Kas - Oi! What was THAT supposed to mean, that Sonic R soundtrack comment? Of course I do like it, it's early 90's kitsch appeals to me. But is that a bad thing....? Don't answer that. Richard Jaques' best moment though came with Metropolis Street racer, but that's another topic.

To answer your question Kas, about the differences between the US and Japanese Sonic CD soundtraacks. Firstly Sonic Boom was on the US version of Sonic CD and (I think) the PC version. Our version had "Toot Toot sonic Warrior". Apart from that pretty much every track was different. So the US version doesn;'t have that cool Jazz inspred song for Stardust Speedway, or the cool dance track for the Special stage.
There IS a site where you can download all the tracks from every sonic game ever... but posting a link to it would get me in trouble.

Was that a real joke game made by Nintendo, or just some home brewed rom?

(god it was horrible)

Neither, actually. It's a hack of the SNES Speedy Gonzalez game.
By pirates, of course.

Eep.... I always though Virtual Sonic was just a game I had never played.

I tried Knuckles Chaotix yesterday for the first time. It's..... interesting, to say the least. I haven't decided whether I like it or not. On the one hand it's innovative and the graphics and sound are beautiful for a genesis game (32x or not), but on the other hand, the controls really take some getting used to. In a Sonic game, I'm used to being able to run unrestrictedly forward at all times, trying to get to the goal with all possible speed. In this.... Well, you can't. Not very easily, anyway, especially considering the fact that most of the game is upward motion.

I'm guessing that was just a random remark showing how much he wanted Sonic CD to be ported.

At least someone here has logic. =/

Well I put in S&K PC to listen to the original soundtrack, and OUCH, the quality is horrid. Anyone know how to make wave's richer? ...

I feel kinda saddened that I've never experienced most of this stuff... What systems were they for? I know Extreme was supposed to be for Saturn, but what about Virtual Sonic, or Sonic Chaos, and the rest?

Jeez... There's gotta be a comprehensive list of these games somewhere... time to go search. Goodness knows I've got nothing better to do.

I'll try to answer your questions... Going in order of which they were mentioned in this thread...

Sonic DS: The upcoming Sonic game for the DS
Sonic CD: Sega CD addon
Sonic Fighters AKA Sonic: The Fighters AKA Sonic Championship: Arcade, Japan only
Segasonic the Hedgehog: Arcade, Japan only
Knuckles Chaotix: Sega 32X addon
Sonic R: Sega Saturn
Sonic Shuffle: Sega Dreamcast
Sonic Pocket Adventures: Neo Geo Pocket Color
"Sonic Meets Crap 1-6": I have no idea what he's talking about
"Sonic 3D Bash" and "knuckles choatix": Bit-blade means Sonic 3D Blast and Knuckles Chaotix
Sonic Adventure: Dreamcast/Gamecube
Sonic Xtreme: The initially planned/partly developed 3D Sonic game for the Saturn that never came to be. Looked freaking awesome.
Virtual Sonic: An official CD of Sonic tunes put out by Sega in 1996
Sonic Chaos: Nobody mentioned it before you did... But it's for Gamegear. Known as Sonic & Tails in Japan.

Obviously, I'm sure you know Sonic CD was for the Sega CD.

The Sega CD had some other good games for it, a Ecco the Dolphin: The Tides of Time port from the Genesis, except it packed a killer soundtrack (being on a disc, obviously), and I know there were a few more other good games for it, but I just can't think of any. Ah yes, the true Final Fight Arcade version also hit the Sega CD (with the female vixens, Guy as a playable character, etc).

Just a "For Your Notice" for everyone:

For those who own "Sonic and Knuckles" for the PC, if you browse the game disc, you can listen to soundtracks of Sonic 1-3+S&K, and the original Japanese Sonic CD soundtrack.

I've known about this for awhile, and this is how I first heard of the original game's OST, but just thought I'd mention it here if others never knew about this.

It's worth checking out.

Setzer: Yup, that's the one. Again, the story behind it getting cancelled is absolutely insane, but it *looked* like something that might have sold a few more Saturns and kept the game around instead of seeing Magic Knight Rayearth released here as the final (wasn't it?) game for the system.

Hell, even just putting on a one/two level demo of the Saturn version would be neat as a peak at what could have been. If they still had the code of course.

Sonic R was a fantastic game. The controls were iffy, and the soundtrack... Well let's just say the soundtrack was favoured by Elmo a lot more than it was me

Sonic R had Richard Jaques' work on it. "Supersonic Racing" was the title track
When you're SUPERSONIC RACING, there's no TIIIIIIIIME TO LOOK AROUUUUUND~

Sorry. Just had to get that out of my system.

And I agree with the sentiment that Sonic Extreme would be nice. As would that sonic music CD I forget the name of, even though it's not a game.

Edit: Oh yeah. Virtual Sonic.

Actually, they put it in the Gamecube version as well... in the Japanese release. They just took it out of the US release. Same goes for The Ooze. Flicky and Ristar aren't exactly Sonic games, either, so who knows what non-Sonic games they'll throw in this time.

Probably.

What I'd really like to see on this disc, is maybe Streets of Rage 1-3. Now if they did that, AND with Sonic CD? My god, there's Sega Heavon on a disc.

you mean sonic xtreme, colin? =] I'd love to see that.
I never got to play sonic R, but I'd like too. as for sonic CD well... *Darth Setzer has sonic CD for sega CD, so he's not too worried about it. I really need to get around to buying some new systems... *Darth Setzer blows the dust off his playstation, then goes to play some tetris attack on his SNES>

Anya & Others: Trust me, unless there's two versions of it or it's on multiple games, "Sonic Boom" is on Sonic CD.

I never played Sonic R though, but I've heard it's pretty good.

Still though ... this game has Sonic freaking CD!

Anyone remember the really old Sonic anime, that had a few episodes with the planet from Sonic CD? And it had Amy, and everything else that resembled the game.

Also, if anyone didn't know (not a big deal but just to point it out) Sonic CD was the first game to introduce Amy, and Metal Sonic.
