Shutting down like that can corrupt the filesystem, which can cause this. If you use the recovery console on the install disk, it has some programs that can fix it; I think it's fixmbr and fixntfs. |

you can also try chkdsk /p /s (I think those were the letters) from the recovery disk if it's the one I'm thinking of. |

Can you burn CDs? If so, get SystemRescueCd. It has everything you'll ever want.
Also... insert the WinXP CD into the drive. Go into Recovery Console. Use LISTSVC to looks for suspicious drivers/services. Disable it/them with DISABLE |

Got a startup disk at all? If you do try booting up with that in there and just format it if you didnt have anything important on it. |

I didn't install anything recently. I held down the power button until the computer shut off because it froze. Then it happened. |

It's probably a bad driver. What have you installed recently?
Also, try to take down the text of the screen (heh... taking a digital camera isn't a bad idea) |

I started up my computer today, and a menu showed up with normal mode or safe mode startup. I selected normal mode, and a blue screen showed up, saying Windows found an error and won't start up. It says check the hardware. I do so, and it's fine. I restart the computer, and it happens again. It even happens when I select safe mode. What's going on? |
