So I took offense to that since I not only watch it, but enjoy watching it and will continue to do so. It's much more exciting than watching sweaty men in tight clothes run around a diamond and chase after a ball, in my opinion

But I'm not going to call baseball spectators "The dumbest people in the world" because I can respect their opinions on the sport they love.

I think when you make a statement like that and don't back it up with facts (and really, how COULD you back that up?), you're going to get attacked.

Tom put it best in the Craziness sticky.

Don't try to get me to believe that you are a deep thinker, because you watch NASCAR, and find it interesting on different levels. It sent me the vibe that, that you think you are somehow better than everyone.

You didn't even understand what I meant, so how do you understand how I look at it?

Let's put it this way: I work on my own car. I am the only person to have worked on it in the last 6+ years. I have done much work and I understand a LOT about cars and how they work, what all the engine parts are named and what they're responsible for, etc.

I have to respect someone who can hand-build an 800HP engine with a 10:1 compression ratio and a displacement of 358c.i. (5.9L) with standard gas, no turbo, no nitro, and no other boost forms.

Amazing...we can't respond to your idiocy? That makes a boatload of sense.

What else makes a lot of sense is you saying "honestly if you like it...i think you already prooved that point by NOT posting here...no point in fighting for our oppinions"

Yeah...maybe if this thread was called "NASCAR BLOWS" then MAYBE NASCAR enthusiasts wouldn't post their opinions.

well...you gave an opinion and you didn't back it up too much. therefore, we have every right to rip your opinion to shreads. in addition, because you didn't say too much, many of us just believe you are narrow-minded based on how little you say.

in short, anything you say can be turned against you. how easily that is done depends on how much effort you put in, in the first place

All i am saying about the sponsorships is that it seems to take to the prestige out of sport. Cause all i hear about is how sports is about more than the money, and it's how you play the game. NASCAR, and the other major sports, seem to be destroying that. I thionk that NASCAR is taking ther brunt of the abuse because they are so in your face with the sponsors.

I think it's exciting, and I like to understand it on levels that many of you will never understand.

If you don't think it's physically challenging, YOU get in a cup car and drive one of the easiest tracks, say Talladega, for an hour. You WONT BE ABLE TO.

Bristol? Martinsville? Watkins Glen? Sears Point? You'd all pass out or crash out before lap 10.

It isn't easy driving within inches of another car at speeds exceeding 100MPH, or on superspeedways, exceeding 150MPH. It's harder when you realize how much these cars weigh and how powerful they are - hit the gas when the guy in front of you doesn't, or brake too late, and BOOM, you're out.

It takes skill, and it takes a LOT of engineering.

As for the sponsors: How else do you think they make money to race the cars? Sure, the winner often gets a hefty sum, but look at what, say, 10th place gets... about $50K or so... and 43rd, about $10K if lucky... a set of tires alone is $4k, figure the car at about $250K, the engine at $100K, etc... it REALLY adds up and, without sponsorship, you cannot afford to drive.

I think watching 22 sweaty men run back and forth towards yellow poles is just boring, doing curtseys and jumping jacks are cool, but football is just stupid.

Exactly watching 40 cars take left turns for 3 hours is just boring, crashes and drag races are cool, but this is just stupid

physical...think about how many Gs they pull when they drive that fast...in addition, how hot it is in the car...

I never understood how or why Racing is even consdiered a sport. A sports defenition is 'Physical activity that is governed by a set of rules or customs and often engaged in competitively.'

I would not consider driving a car physical activity.

Anyways I don't watch it I find it boring but there is alot of people out there who do watch it.

I just don't get the point of it.

It represents everything that is wrong with sports today, for the simple fact that they will whore themselves out to companies for sponsorships. They wear patches of their corprate sponsors on their shoulders.

This isn't exclusive to NASCAR, it just seems to be the most painfully obvious display of "selling out". I think that is why i attack it so much. Every sport has done it, and it seems to have taken some of the honor and credibility of the games.

Me personally i can't sit there and watch 40 cars make left turns for 3 hours.

Uh-huh... So, people all around the world who attend Formula 1 or Champ Car races fall into that category as well?

Trust me, the F1 GP in Montreal is one of the biggest events here each year.

What's your point paradox?

Diff'rent strokes for different blokes.

I can say that golf is the most exciting thing ever. You can say that football stimulates the mind. Just because you don't like it, does not mean everyone thinks the same way.

well...the same can be said for basketball (they always score), soccer (most of the time they don't score), baseball (they are just throwing balls around)...
