Copy and paste the URL into the address bar of your browser. I just tried that, and I can open the zip file fine, so if you have problems after that, it's likely that something is wrong with your computer

The download works now. The water is very impressive. How long till we get another patch? I might try beating this game.

I just tried it Disch, it's really good. I remember seeing something like this months ago on another FF hack. I think it's the Sequel to SliverX's DW hack if I'm not mistaken right?

Yeah Hypher's server was having problems. Hopefully it'll be back up later today

Sorry about that.

I can't download the patch now. I just tried. I hope you get that fixed.

I'm not looking to change game mechanics -- this is strictly a facelift patch. Something to just make the general game better -- not to change the game. So I don't plan on fixing the bugs (in this patch anyway).

As for the dialogue windows -- since I'm not planning on changing any dialogue, this seems useless, since no text takes more than one window (aside from Garland at the end, but the game handles that by splitting him into several objects)

The time thing is a good idea. To keep like a clock of how long the player's game has been running -- very nice idea.

Night/Day stuff would be more of a hassle than its worth (I did a hack like this in a prior hack -- let's just say it wasn't easy =P). Plus the amount of extra space needed for all the new palettes would eat up a lot of PRG space -- and I'm trying really hard to avoid expanding the ROM so that this patch can be used in other people's hacks without too much difficulty. I suppose I could base the night palette off the day one rather than storing two seperately -- but that wouldn't come out nearly as nice. I'll put this on the 'maybe' pile.

Animations in the battle BG -- I'm leaning towards a no, since the battle bg might be something someone wants to change in their hack -- and fixing certain objects at certain points would really hinder their design options.

Run has been suggested a few times, KTurbo ;P. I have yet to ask Gavin about his hack -- perhaps I can include it. No sense in me re-inventing the wheel (even though that's what I'm doing with a lot of these hacks ;_

Perhaps I can speed up the damage animation in battle (that little explosion thing that shows when you hit an enemy). That takes unnecessarily long.

I haven't gotten much/any work on this done since my last post -- since I've been addicted to Cave Story!!!!! But it's still one of the things I'm working on on-and-off.

It would be nice, but they didn't even incorperate mvoign backgrounds in other FF even till FFVi. So not really a thing that is needed.

I like the buy more than one item at a time idea tho. It would probably take you 5 minutes or so to buy 99 potions in the original, but with that fix it would take only a few seconds.

Oh yes, and you are going to fix all those nasty bugs in the original right?

Add running while B button is pressed...

Lenophis' idea is a nice one. Maybe some day-night cycle regulated by the in game clock?

Here's a suggestion for you, and it'll add on to dormento's dialogue idea.

In FF2 and FF3, the dialogue box will scroll if there's more text that needs to be displayed. So if there's like 9 lines of text, it'll display the default 4 initially, then scroll the next 4 up, then the last one up as needed. FF2's setup is that it needs a linebreak if the text needs to scroll so it doesn't bleed. I'd show a screenshot, but at this time, I cannot.

Another idea is a time keeper, to display how much time you've been playing. Although, I have no idea if that'll be easy to do with the heavy-time-based 6502...

More idea's as they come.

I actually prefer Gil over GP, not because of any purist philospohy, but because a Gil is supposed to be a small coin (probably one Japanese yen), not something insanely valuable like gold. A 100-Gil potion shouldn't cost forty thousand dollars, which is what 100 ounces of gold are worth.

Wish list:

* Buying more than one of an item each time

* "Busier" towns -- even if you can't enter the buildings, there should be more structures. After playing FFIII (with Narshe), these 8-bit towns seem so underpopulated.

* If you can animate the water, how about some movement in the battle backgrounds? Trees rustling, little eyes poking out from the shadows, water dripping from dungeon walls, stuff like that.

* As a nod to ESPN/SportsCenter buffs, change "Ineffective" to a Dan Patrick-style "The whiff!"

OK, maybe that last one isn't too important. ^^;

I always thought the english FF1 game had too little dialogue. I know expanding the dialogue means expanding the ROM as well, but this thread is kinda like a FF1 Christmas List, and Disch = Santa.
What about multi-page dialog windows?
It would be cool to have some control codes in the dialog. Like, wait for button press to show next page, or wait for x milliseconds. I agree this would be a very difficult thing to do, seeing as no one ever tried it, but one can dream, right? :p

Maybe you could kill that 'Nothing here' box too? Make it just not show anything like every other game on the planet.

Very good idea. I'll do this next (did the treasure chest thing -- well everything short of actually supplying the TC graphics).

Currently:

- Overworld Water animates
- Treasure chests actually open when you open them
- Item list re-arranged so Heal, Pure, Soft, Tent, Cabin, House are displayed (in that order) before all key items.

Todo:

- Remove/block "Nothing Here" message
- Have characters dance if they can equip items in weapon/armor shops
- Quantity option for item menu

More ideas welcome. Can't promise I'll add anything but it's always good to hear suggestions.
