A sword that blocks all projectiles when swung (reflects some perhaps?) and sends any enemy you hit with it flying way back.

A sword that stabs and sends a beam when at full strength strait forword.

A sword that causes certain small enemys to explode like a bomb. (like the rat that moves back and pops, now explodes and breaks walls.)

Boots that let you dash across water in a strait line when you dash off a peer or area of shallow water. You'd be able to jump over rocks in the water.

Boots that cut grass as you walk over it.

Boots that kick enemies out of the way when you walk into them.

I would also suggest coming up with different names for the swords, like Din's Edge or something.

I like this idea, though I'm not sure whether or not you mean that the Nayru / Farore blades should only regenerate stats when they hurt or kill enemies. That's how it should be.

Also, some other ideas:

a) Some kind of long sword.
b) A sword (or other kind of weapon) that does a 360* attack by default.
c) A sword that deals damage to you when you use it

etc.

Also, if you want to make it a little more interesting, you might want to consider making it so that you can only change your equipment at certain locations rather than just anywhere. Being able to just choose the best sword for any given room or situation may make the game way too easy. You could also have interesting puzzles by making players switch weapons.

But what does diving underwater accomplish besides being able to avoid attacks?

As for the blades, how about instead of uninterrupted attacks, it has an affect similar to the Steadfast Ring in the Oracle games? Basically, you get damaged, but you are not knocked back. Another idea would be a blade that increases the frequency of pickups.

For footwear, I like the idea of ice boots, that prevent you from slipping on ice. Perhaps tunics could be selectable as well, and the blue tunic could protect against cold, and the red tunic protects against heat. Also, two upgrades that would increase your defense, so that tunic power and defense are independant.

I like the diving under water thing. They added that in the GBA version of Zelda 3. I gotten used to that since the gb games.

Quite simple, actually - just play around with the select indexes, maybe a few creative compares, and utilize "popup" sidebar windows like with the jars.

Translating is not just hacking text. It often involves quite a bit more.

Similarly, if I were to alter Link's sword so that, along with the plain old steel sword you were able to pick from Din's Blade, Nayru's Blade, and Farore's Blade (one at a time, but freely selectable) what would be features unique to each?

Well, ideally they would be elemental property based, but giving the enemies elemental weaknesses would probably be a pain.

So instead, Din should probably give a damage bonus, Nayru should give a magic bonus (probably cost reduction), and Farore should give a defensive bonus.

Or alternately, Din could provide uninterruptible attacks (getting hit causes damage, but does not stop your attack), Nayru could regenerate mana, and Farore could regenerate hearts.

I would also suggest coming up with different names for the swords, like Din's Edge or something.

If you want to play around with the subscr, go right ahead and use these addrs.

subscreen ram storage place - $1100 -$17BF (top left tile to the bottom right tile)
$0202 (i think) - item selected.
$0D/DDAE - screen routine called when you first enter subscreen.
$0D/DF88 - refresh routine (drawn every vblank while in subscreen)

I will not have a clue how someone can write another routine to have another selection thing for say which sword to choose from.....

Maybe some hover boots, for quick Z64-style running on air temporarily?

What would people like to see for functional footwear in A Link to the Past, besides the Pegasus Boots? I'm currently considering Iron Boots, which would allow Link to sink in water, and Feather Greaves, which would increase his overall speed. We're talking toggleable/selectable stuff here, only-one-on-at-a-time sorta thing.

Similarly, if I were to alter Link's sword so that, along with the plain old steel sword you were able to pick from Din's Blade, Nayru's Blade, and Farore's Blade (one at a time, but freely selectable) what would be features unique to each?

(Note that each of these would require reprogramming of the subscreen, which I'm open to. I've done it before in other games, I'm sure I can figure it out in this, heh.)

Now, I'm open to suggestions, but I don't want anything weird or wacky that would require drastic reprogramming efforts (such as the addition of an air meter while underwater, for example.) I'm gonna be making myself a simple exploratory test dungeon tomorrow with which I hope to be able to play with the effects of various items, possibly adding new ones or altering existing ones, and I'm looking for suggestions.

And no Roc's Feather/Cape/Etc. No.
