What I'm tired of is people making hacks where you play as an enemy because it is cool to do that now, not because they really take it seriously. Trashykins was alright with what he did, 1) because it wasn't a fad yet and 2) because he didn't make an enemy-playable hack to be cool, he did it because it was cool. I mean, I like the idea of playing as a ninji, and I like the idea of playing as a shyguy or a koopa or a raven (but not really a pokey ), but when this is done just to fit in, it's WRONG.
Originality is not fitting in, it's being different, and that's how all of the greatest things in history have been recognized. |

This is Mario, dolt. The only way we're going to tell an evil enemy from a good enemy is either because they look nicer or because they have a hat or bow or something.
And people are making new characters when it comes to these enemy hacks, they just happen to be of the enemy species. Sure, they're not using new graphics, but from Trasher's sigs and teasers alone that Ninji seemed to get his own little personality.
But I guess that Trashy's Ninji hack is the exception, not the rule when it comes to originality. The other enemy hacks floating around here, while cool, don't seem to really do any of that. But they never really set out to... all they really do is switch an enemy for Mario. That's all that they're supposed to do, and for what they are I think they're fine.
What do you people have against switching Mario for another character, anyway? I honestly don't think any of us look so deeply into the series as to consider it more interesting when a human is in the Mushroom Kingdom like Kyouji said. And Kyouji's the only person here who made a rational comment against enemy sprites as Mario, so... |
