Much to my dismay VMware doesnt want to work with the 64 bit version so im downloading the 32, im kinda upset I wanted to try a 64 bit OS to see if theres any performance differences.

VMware is fucking awesome though, im gonna have to try a shitload of OS's.

well, when you go to install it, it lets you partition the whole drive automatically, or lets you manually edit the partition tables.

edit: here is a screenshot for anyone who wants to see what it looks like
http://dcah.us.to/Screenshot.png 800 KB though.

Ooh, nice size. I assume it comes with some sort of partition editor? I don't think I can partition what I have now from Windows.

yeah, im also gonna install it on a new hard drive when I get one, so its a little faster, and stuff, cause right now, i only gave 4gb to ubuntu, and vmware doesnt seem to let me change how big it is...

I downloaded the live CD to give it a whirl. I'm not sure if I really like GNOME, but from what I read, it's not that hard to install KDE (or I could just be really fucking lazy and use KUbuntu). I'll probably install it when I buy a new hard disc (my current hard drives have very little free space available).

The X86 version is 600 megs, fairly small compared to other distros like FC3's 3 disks(although I guess not all off them are needed for a minimal install).

Heh, it's yet another Distro I have to try in VMware. Going to install Slackware this week, to replace the bloated FC2 installation I have on another computer. Slackware intrested me, and the poll I took once said that Slackware would fit me the most. But Ubuntu was on 2nd place...

Heh, going to make a review out of Slackware after I installed it, and compare it to Fedora core 2 and Ubuntu. :\ The other distros I tried is Knoppix, Damn small Linux, Puppy linux and SystemRescueCd. Out of thoose, I only found the SystemRescueCd one being useful for me. The rest was just fun to mess around with.

I'm thinking of trying this myself, but I need to wait until next month to download it. (Only got 4GB of bandwidth left. And other things need downloading too, such as more Inuyasha. ) How big is it anyway?

I'm not sure what the problem is, I have a virtual harddrive installed on it...

It looks good though, and I've heard that ubuntu is an excellent distro.

Either install a kernel that supports SCSI disk drives, or change your virtual harddrive to be emulated as IDE.

yeah, its really great, and in VMware, its suprisingly not slow to the point of really noticing it, but then again, I can give it more memory for ubuntu, since right now I only gave it 280MB of ram...ill up it to like 300 or more later.

I downloaded the ISO myself and ordered 15 disks from the site, I really dont need 15 disks but id like to have a backup for the X86 and AMD64 versions, plus I have a few friends who are willing to try it.

Mostly I want to use it due to the fact it was reccomended by many people for anyone who is a newbie to Linux.

Nice choice of distro. Ubuntu is my current favorite distro. The package manager is second to none.
