Geez, does NOBODY know the Thread Title? Arwon....??

Yeah, the Avalanches Frontier Psychiatrist did get some minor fame in the UK mostly from what I remember, although I sent it to a few people and thoroughly freaked them out

The Living End had some success, even being used in a Bank ad (I think the song was "Roll On" or something in the US, although I very much agree that their best stuff is still that original Prisoner of Society / Second Solution EP, and everything from there on in is quite repetetive.

I adore Machine Gun Fellatio, but it tends to weird out a lot of people.... including myself, frankly, with some of their tracks. I wouldn't know what to classify it as....

I wanna know if Ben Folds can be classed as Australian yet, now he's been living in Adelaide for a while

Peter Garrett is indeed still the Member for Kingsford Smith, and my local member of federal parliament. He did a special one-off gig with the band for the Tsnumai relief concert (at the Opera House I believe).

What, no one remembers Midnight Oil's "The Dead Heart"? (Actually, is Peter Garrett still off politicking? I thought I saw something about him getting back with the band.)

I've heard Midnight Oil, but can't say I know much about them past a few of their songs. That one song, "Beds are Burning", is really cool, though.

Kylie's Light Years is an excellent pop album.

Um... The Birthday Party and Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds. That's what I know.

Oh come now, our Kylie did that awesome duet with Nick Cave, she ain't all bad.

Jet and the Vines are awful and it is a travesty that they're probably the most well known current Aussie bands.

The Living End have some success outside Australia, it's a pity everything since their debut has been pretty mediocre.

Augie March SHOULD be huge everywhere, but continue to be utterly, tragically, lamentably ignored overseas just like in Australia. Well at least Pitchfork gave them an 8.2, which is not too shabby for a band OTHER PEOPLE HEARD BEFORE THEY DID.

I think the Avalanches' Frontier Psychiatrist has some international fame.

I dunno, there's not a lot of good Aussie music that isn't totally derivative and interchangable with American/British band X. And those that aren't, maybe MGF or the Whitlams or christ even bloody Frenzal Rhomb, for example, are usually so idiosynchratically Australian that they just don't make it outside our formiddably distant borders. So only a few pop divas and the occasional generic rock band, usually make it overseas with any widespread fame.

Well, we all know AC/DC and Kylie Minogue, of course (the former being good, the latter being, ehm, not-so-good).

I've heard Midnight Oil, but can't say I know much about them past a few of their songs. That one song, "Beds are Burning", is really cool, though.

Nick Cave is famous, of course. He's also had some ok songs.

I really like Jet, and I bought the "Get Born" album. I know they've been critizised of borrowing a little too much from other artists, but, let's face it, everyone borrows.

Natalie Imbruglia, another boring pop-artist.

INXS is alright, I guess.

Other than that, can't say there's much Aussie that comes to mind.

The Go-Betweens are from Australia and they're very good. And they've also made the best pop song ever, 'Lee Remick'.

That's pretty much all the Australian music I know though

I COME FROM THE LAND DOWN UNDER!

Plus a few RAC and racist bands I learned of through the local anti-racism scene.

And NWH.

Tarale, you know any good aussie punk bands...Other than Destroyer 666.

I was just wondering... how much Australian music are you guys familiar with, and what bands are you familiar with?

I tend to be very familiar with Australian music (although a lot of Aussies surprisingly aren't all that familiar with the Aussie music scene outside of Australian Idol, which is really disappointing), but I was just wondering how many people from outside of Australia are familiar with Aussie music.

So, I was wondering, what Australian bands are you guys familiar with?

And props to somebody who can name where that thread title is from
