To change text you need to make a table. I use Tag, which can be found on Zophars domain. If you want to use a premade table go to http://www.snakeyes.cc/tbl/

To use a table you open the rom with a hex editor. I would suggest either Hexecute or Translhextion. Find the open table feature. When your table is loaded you just have to use the find feature. Ctrl+F usually opens it, or look for it on the menu. Then you type in the text that you want to change. Make sure you have text selected rather than hex.

Thanks Kasper, hopefully that'll be helpful for me. Which program I should learn if let's say I wanted to make an editor for changing the text in SMB3?

Yes, an editor would be good to have for changing the text in this game. But like JossiRossi said in his post, if you want an editor to make things easier you have to make one yourself. Hopefully one day, we will have one.

iamhiro: it wasn't an editor list, it was a post telling people to not make posts looking for editors, I took it down because people like you thought it was a list of editors

Making a editor is a time consuming thing and you got to have a love for the game your making it gor to finish it. Look how long it takes to make a hack? I would say making the editor that makes the hack takes 10 times as long to do. So asking people to make editors for games they don't like or for something simple as changing text won't get you far.

Well, that's okay. I was just wondering because someone made a SMB3 Misc. editor, I forgot who made it, but it's a pretty hot program.

I just lurk here and play completed hacks, but the general consensus is, that if you want a nice easy to use editor to acomplish something, then you have to make it yourself.

The main reasoning is that if someone else had wanted to take the effort to make then they already would have, especially with SMB3. So if there isn;t one it's because all the people capable of making the nice programs don;t feel it's worth their time, or it does not interest them. Either way the answer defaults to you have to make it your self.

However, if your nice someone may have some of the locations of the text in the rom written down somewhere, but if not don;t expect anyone to look for it.

Let's say if it doesn't exist, would it be hard to make one?

I say it's time to bring back the "Is there a Editor for this game thread". Then people might not have to ask cause the list would be right there.

As for the question I'm not sure but it's unlikely.

I'm sorry to be asking this question, but does an editor like this exist? I was just curious because I'm having a hard time with changing the text in SMB3. I know how to make a tbl file, that's the easy part. Thank you for looking at my thread.
