yeah, it has been awhile
dont worry, I like to type...but ubuntu looks like the linux for me...its already burned to cd and what not...so im just checking over everything, to make sure I dont screw anything up...cause I dont want to mess up winXP...so yeah.

ive been reading things for a few hours now, and almost ready to install Ubuntu...ill edit this, or something, with my first linux post...hopefully.

and ubuntu, disables the root account by default, and I get to set one up during install/config..so no problems there..it even sets up dualboot with GRUB between the different OSes so I dont have to worry there either.

edit:.....yeah...I tried to partition my hdd..but I fucked the whole pc..had to do a reformat, and reinstall windows...so it really sucks..ill just wait til I get another hard drive..then ill install it on that.

first of all, dont listen to ssj there...
second, s'up! Been awhile, hasnt it?

anyway, Im a main linux user now, and my choice is slackware...
if you cant download the whole image, download zipslack and move it to its own partition...
its fairly simple...
or you can go Here and buy a cd set of just about any linux distro for a few bucks shipped (I got my 2cd set for about $2.00 there!!!).

You really should look up info on bash, and get used to typing... a lot...
also, once you get your system, DONT stay logged on as root... thats just asking for trouble...

good luck, and if you need any help, contact me.

ive decided to finally try linux....while looking, ive seen mandrake, and fedora, which are both HUGE....so I didnt really wanna spend time downloading them...and I came across a 522MB one called Ubuntu...it looks awesome, and has some cool features, so im downloading it now...anyone else know about this one, or tried it? if so, is it any good....thought I should ask before I get a chance to install it or anything.
