The files that you must search are known as XA files, that contains music and sound fx. Try searching files on PSMPlay with that extension or some suspicious ones such as "bgm.dat". Or just right click on any part fo psmplay and choose analyze cdrom. After some time it will find (if successful) tracks of the game. Choose to save the configuration (not the files) to some filename.psm. Then open it by right clicking and choosing "open analyzed disc (or such)". It will load the tracks and you can play them. To save the tracks just right click again, choose save as, and save them as a wav file, so you can convert it to mp3 or other stuff.

Requirements
To use psmplay you must have installed aspi drivers (use forceaspi as it's more compatible with many burners and it's easier to install, just double-clicking INSTASPI.BAT). Notice that aspi doesn't recognize usb cd/dvd drives

I dunno what version you have, but I tried Goldwave once, and my statement remains...

Maybe it's improved, but there's really no need for me to check. Audacity does the job just fine.

So, in essence, no need for me to change over from GoldWave?

It's the only audio editor I've ever seen which has the following 3 properties:

  • Isn't ridiculously expensive (free, even)
  • Works
  • Isn't a pile of crap

Okay, I've got to ask because this is the tenth time I've seen this. What is so great about Audacity? I use GoldWave, and I don't see why I would even want to switch.

If you have a nice sound card, you could just plug your PSX's audio output into it and record it using Audacity. ...You do have a PSX, don't you?

Zeality, have you tried running the disc through PSMPlay or PsxMC? I'd try it myself but don't own the game in question (living in Iowa sucks). Grab 'em off Zophar: http://www.zophar.net/utilities/psxutil.html (I'd use linked text but the Mac G3 here in the lab doesn't want to cooperate)

It should work just fine -- I ripped the Castlevania SOTN soundtrack using PSMPlay a while back, and got everything, including each voice clip.

I believe I've referenced this dilemma in the last few months before, but I've never made a complete thread. There are four extra tracks on the PSX version of Chrono Trigger;

One Sunny Day When We Met, Scattering Blossoms, A Meeting with Destiny, Time to Rest -After the Battle-

Currently, these have never been liberated from the game in any form. I cannot locate a .psf rip (obviously), and simply recording internally is flawed, as emulation always produces slight bumps and slow-downs here and there. Does anyone have a solution for extracting these? They are playable from the Music Box extra at any time. If you would like a save for unlocking the Musix Box feature, try http://www.gamefaqs.com/console/psx/save/final_fantasy_chronicles_ct_a.GME .
