Actually, I'm pretty sure you could replace the piranha plant with just about anything mostly stationary and have few ill effects (none if done well) Not that anything else he said is at all likely.

seriously now, i really agree with Keikonium. You should ask some help for the ASM hackers to make the sprites working properly, instead of only changing the gfx. They may look like the sprites you wanted them to look like, but they still won't work like the sprites since you only changed their gfx and not their codes.

i have the unlocked rom here at my site with the ideas.. (link removed) just go to super mario ips patches and just scroll down and you will see the hack SMB3 2NDQ DEMO.SMC.

Good idea DAV- I also replaced the boo with the hammer bro, because the animation's the same, and i used a layer 1 invisible level tile under it. The only problem is that i can't make the hammer bro disappear after i finish the level... Take it easy on him JJ.

Although I think it was pretty bs, at the same time I would'nt have thought of replacing those sprites myself. I'll give some credit to DAV for at least the idea. Nice insight DAV! Kudos!

No, DAV is saying he used NO ASM AT ALL. The sprites would not behave correctly.

I wont believe it until I see it. Making bowser look AND act like the doomship? Come on! Bowser does a sort of arc type fast movement that brushes scross the screen. Last I checked the ship didn't do that. And making the fish act like the hands? You would need to make them move up alot slower and shorter I doubt this very much. As soon as I see a demo or shots (if u can make them animated gifs it would be a million times better), I will apoligize to you, but right now I find this very hard to believe.
