It would have to be either software or the card. Windows can't tell if the speakers are blown, and since it's using the internal speaker, it must know something's not working.

No sound as in through speakers only or no output device whatsoever? You can use headphones to check. If some other headset works then the speakers are shot. If nothing works then I'm going to assume that something might be shot in the sound card. Hope for the speakers being shot.

Unless I see otherwise, I doubt it's software. If it just up and dies like that unless by some sort of trojan, then I doubt seriously that it was glitched software. Especially, if you reinstalled.

All of a sudden, my sound stopped working. I tried listening to music and watching flash movies but I couldn't hear anything. This wasn't just on my earphones, though. It also happened with my speakers. So I checked volume control and clicked the tab to change the volume which usually makes a tone noise. However when I clicked it, the PC speaker made a beep noise. My sound card is an SiS 7018 Wave and I tried removing and reinstalling it, but it just didn't help. Somebody please help!
