Sorry about the one week bump, but I found it. It begins at 2B926.

The following text can be found there (in the same order as in the rom):

The format is the same as the status bar and can be found in the ROM Loc thread.

The reason you're having trouble locating it in the rom is because it uses a custom font that only has the letters it needs. You can find the individual tiles scattered around the 2bpp graphics files.

So, I've got this program which splits the rom into two parts and changes the values to make the "Layer 3 Text" readable through notepad or a hex editor. I found two instances of the word "MARIO" in the rom. Neither one of them worked. The first one was located next to the word "LUIGI". I tried changing them, but I couldn't find where in the game they are used. The other one was "MARIO AND SYSTEM PROGRAMMER" from the credits.

I tried looking through the rom in "Layer 3 Mode" just in case something would pop up. I found nothing, except for what I belive to be the tile data for the "big wooden smashers" from the first castle and the rock background from the cave levels. I haven't been "unlazy" enough to confirm this, though.

Probably what you'd want to do is use something like tracer (I think) to find the ASM for that menu and change the 8x8 tiles used. Thats all I can think of.

You may not want to do that, because it uses Letters from a complete Font which is used in other areas of the game.

Edit the graphics for the word "MARIO".

It's in GFX29.bin (Open it with YY-CHR)

Hey,

You know how on the title screen menu, it gives you the option to load a game from the three slots:

MARIO A - EMPTY
MARIO B - EMPTY
MARIO C - EMPTY

Does anybody know how to change it so it says like:

SLATE 1 - EMPTY
SLATE 2 - EMPTY
SLATE 3 - EMPTY
