Negative One... Check out earlier posts and look at KP9000's graphics. I don't need a "decorator". Already got one of the best.

BTW- Not waiting for *all* the ASM changes to be done before level design can be started. Only the basic structures (larger ones have been started) need to be finished for that. I will be clearing out some space for people first though. This should be ready a week after I finish this one particular code (if God would be so kind).

"Taking advantage of openness..."

Jathys, count me in, I'll need a project to work on after finishing my hack, which will be done somewhat soon. (I'm gonna use some help from Kejardon, but he's busy with life stuff now, so let's wait a while.) You need to put that new version of SMILE on your site, I'd love to have it. Competing with Drew's hack has given me plenty of SM hacking experience, so I'm qualified. Also, If you have time, add the (complete) Samus palette editor I've been craving.

I dont know if this will be closed or not, because I still have something to contribute. I will be joining this project for sure, and be doing some serious level design, and possibly a lot of the GFX. Whenever we get most of the ASM done, we will be ready for starting this hack. Remember, the hack's name isnt just "alliance" for nothing......

My only strongpoint in hacking is level design...but I would like to help out with this, Super Metroid has always been one of my favorite games.

Well, whenever you get around to this, I can suggest something you need to do.

You need to get yourselves a *decorator*, which means, in almost every Super Metroid hack I've seen, the scenery leaves something to be desired. Everything is dull, square, with no cool looking stuff in the background or foreground. It all looks very plain kind of like an old-folks-home.
Any good Super Metroid hack needs a *decorator* to go through every room and add graphical decor like stagmites/tites, plants, backgrounds, etc. just to liven up the look of the place.

And whatever you do, avoid overuse of perfectly square/rectangular rooms. Nothing ruins the feeling of being lost in a maze of wilderness and caves quite like making the rooms look like they were made by an architect rather than natural growth & erosion.

Math: Of course I meant you Get your a$$ onto IRC. I'll be on tonight, but work from Wed-Sat and disappear for long periods of time. Tonight I'll be making 3 new scripts for the hack (info seeking was last night) along with a minor release for SMILE. Could use some advice on one of the scripts.

You mean me? O_o silly Jathy. One of these days I'll be back on IRC. See you then.

I, too, offer you the described "passive" kind of asm hacking help.

I will be doing most of the ASM myself (learning as I do it, mind you). There are actually some other ASM people who have offered help (in passive ways, of course) . . . Kejardon has helped me shrink and speed up my existing codes, along with making a code of his own just for fun... jman2050 has always been willing to help figure stuff out, since the data helps him to a degree anyway... Parasyte is offering some help now, it appears... Another ASM hacker (nameless until I'm sure that he still wants to help) had actually offered to help out a fair amount with the ASM.

I'll take what help I can get, but do actually plan most ASM changes myself. Only two smaller scripts are done, but I'll be doing 3 or 4 more this weekend (see: Sunday). Also plan on starting one of my 3 large scripts, God help me.

Jathys has said that he intends on doing most of the ASM changes himself, honestly. And I don't know of any other ASM hackers that would be interesting in this auspicious project.

You know I would be willing to make a few tilesets for you, should you want them. Just tell me what you want done.

jman has been fairly informative for me, as well. *raises cup*. Cheers!

It will be fun to see what direction this hack takes and how it will evolve over time from super metroid with no changes to... whatever it turns into.

You know I'll continue with my support for your project, though ti will be a passive role because of my project. And Para, if you have any questions about the game's engine, I'd be more than willing to provide information, much like I have with Jathys.

I think I'm interested in helping... Maybe. And if I did help, it would only be with assembly hacking. I need something to get my self better up-to-speed with SNES, and hacking Super Metroid is something I would probably enjoy.

But ... don't expect me to make all (or most) of the ASM hacks. You'd better find another ASM hacker or two to evenly distribute the work load. ;O

This will be a rather... involved hack, requiring a team approach to finish it. Basically, each person who helps will be in charge of level design for one area of the game (unless someone wants to do just graphics, or just ASM, or just....) People will be mostly free to develop in different directions, as long as general rules are followed (such as certain events taking place, not overwriting someone else's data, etc...)

If you're interested in possibly joining the project, check out the Alliance Homepage for a little bit more information, or go to #jzd on acmlm's irc network for a lot more information . . . Just ask what a "gravitroid" is and you'll get an idea of some of the stuff I'm up to.

In any case sorry that there are no screenshots (won't be for a while either, as level design is taking the back burner until a few ASM changes are implemented). Also sorry that I have officially killed my Arena hack . . . It was only a testing grounds for SMILE, so I could start making a bigger hack.
