The game's boss select screen code doesn't look very friendly for those not all that familiar with 6502 ASM, so a lot of changes would probably be pretty difficult to do. I think the main problem, though, is finding space for the boss mugshots. Barring ROM expansion (which seems like a bit much for something like this), where would you put them? There's not much free space for that sort of thing in the ROM.

Unless I'm mistaken -- the enemies in MM2-6 are drawn primarily on the BG, with sprites here and there... whereas the enemies in MM1 are done with sprites (except for Gutsman... which looks like it's primarily BG with some sprites). So to do the conversion you'd have to basically write an entire drawing routine from scratch -- on top of adding new graphics and changing a bunch of sprite info.

So short answer: no, it won't be easy.

Is there a hack for Megaman or Rockman 1 that changes the stage select screen and displays the robot faces rather than the full body sprites (to make it like Megaman 2-6)?

If not, an easy way to pull it off? (obviously the graphics could be ripped from 3)
