Nope, I have no idea what that means.
Anywhoo, I've downloaded Noteworthy Composer and I'm just going to play with that for now. Hopefully the dreaded 10 times save limit will not pervent me from making my MIDI OF DOOM! Or something of that nature. |

I don't really do a lot of (well, any  ) music work, but I tried FLStudio once, it looked pretty good. Uses a lot of memory though.

Ten - I'm still using 1.75a (1.75b is the current version), but I don't think it disables the save function after the evaluation period is over - at least, the current version never did.
I primarily use it for creating MIDIs or just for experimenting, so the sheet music printing is not a problem usually, and as I said the save restrictions can be gotten around easily enough. |

indeed...and Cakewalk's trial dosn't even ALLOW saving, which is why I obtained mine by questionable means but in all seriousness, cakewalk is really one of the best out there, right along with Cubase (another non-free yet extremly decent one) |

Well I don't have a printer so that's not a problem. But isn't save disabled completely after the trail period? |

I've used Noteworthy Composer for years, and it's good enough for my needs. I know the version linked to there is an evaluation version, but I've always used the evaluation version, without paying.
The only catch is that if you want to print sheet music, it will display "Unregistered score print" all over it, and that you can only save a file ten times, though that can be rectified by simply copying and pasting into a new file.

Thing is, if you want a really decent one, you WILL have to scrape out a few bucks, or go the illegal way and get it cracked I use Cakewalk pro Audio 9 myself, but its a bit costly and I obtained mine through questionable means  |

Voyetra has been around for that for a while, though I believe the most recent stuff you have to buy, even though there are demos. However, you might be able to find cracks and whatever else as well.
I wouldn't know, I haven't tampered with MIDI files since Win95 and I haven't ever really made one. |

DOS and Windows aren't the only OSes out there
Most operating systems don't even use an extension for executables. |

I can't find anything for Windows that's even beta. A program called Jazz++ catchs my eye but it's still in it's alpha stage (a trim I learned when I couldn't find an .exe file.). I could always wait for Audacity to come out with full midi support but I don't have any idea how that part of delevopment is going.
But I'm starting to wonder, if you don't have a .exe file for the code you're making, how do you test it? |

go to SourceForge and search for "midi composer" or something similar. Take a look at the software map, too. That sometimes works out better than Search.

I used to go to download dot com to get programs but with the thread of spyware I don't trust it's content anymore. So does anyone here know of any good freeware programs that I can use to create midi files? |
