By having low bitrate and kHz?

...that's the only thing who makes sense anyway, wav is almost lossless (if you choose high quality at least) compared to the compressed formats.

That statement makes no sence. How can something lose quality if there is no compression?

Having a good sound card shouldnt effect the conversion of SOFTWARE like winamp diskwriter or goldwave.

If you have a really good sound card, you can get a sound-recording program and have it record from Stereo Mix. This records every sound the computer makes (except the built-in speaker ), but it's equivilant to (in fact, I think it is) a physical connection between the input and output, so a crappy sound card will yield bad results.

People have said that using this method would degrade the sound quality. Im not really a sound buff and haven't noticed any difference. They probably have that belief cause they got a crappy sound card. This is the method that I use. I record the sound, it is recorded in wav format. Then I use a program to convert it to mp3.

Yep, 3.2. Most versions I've seen distributed are much earlier than that though. You actually have to go out to their site and get it.

Works for me. And trust me, I've been doing this for a while now. However, it could be related to a plugin. I'm using last version of Alpha-II for Winamp for that.

That's funny, MID->WAV using the DiskOut plugin never worked

It just wrote blank files...

Actually, that depends on what you're trying to convert. If it's something like a PSF2 file, it'll take a lot longer than just converting some MIDI to WAV.

^-- Probably the best route. I'd probably use Goldwave with the WINLAME extension to convert. That or to OGG. Whichever is needed.

You could just use Winamp with the DiskWriter output plugin. It will be encoded on WAVs, but it can be easily transformed to MP3s with a converter such as WINLAME.

Thanks. Well, I will have to format my computer real soon, so I'll test it later and say if that is what I want.

Try this. It won't be a direct conversion but it will be a way to help you get it into MP3 format...
