Mine went out because of the cold once (lines snapped or something), but it mainly seems to just happen randomly, though a lot moreso when uploading a lot. (Particularly with BitTorrent, my upload speed is directly proportional to my connection stability.) The modem checks out fine, so I assume it's a network card and/or cable issue. Do what I did; get them to look at it, it usually won't cost anything. They'll test it and replace it if need be, if not, you know that's not the problem. (Or they might just replace it and test the old one back at the station, and just give it to someone else if it works. Then you just wait to see whether it happens again, if so, it's something else.)

...And my problem would be randomness.

It better not do it again, or else I'll be forced to get a connection upgrade (I love the way I can get what I want by saying there's some problem with the computer that I can't fix XD)

See, your problem would be warmth - mine would be the cold. Not fun when the lines get all frozen or wet and play a little bit of havoc with your connection.

Just be glad you don't live here -- our cable lines are extremely old and shoddy, and if it gets too warm (or they begin hating us) blink goes the RECIEVE light and I'm out of internet for a while.

It's directly related to the heat outside, too, and I'm worried... early fall last year it would go out between 10:00 AM and 7:00 PM (and not come back on) and that's when I'm on the computer (not to mention early fall is a lot cooler than mid summer )

I have a Cable Modem. Seems to be fixed, but it was annoying because my connection was alot faster, but I couldn't access some websites.

Annoying, huh?

This happens to me every now and then, usually it's just cable problems (or uploading too fast in BitTorrent ). Disconnecting the modem's power (or if it's internal, rebooting) for a second usually fixes it. If it's out for a long time I usually call the ISP to see what's up. Also, check other things that use the same line (cable TV for cable, phones for dialup/DSL) and see if they work; if not, the line's probably down.

Also make sure you try to actually access a webpage before assuming it's broken. A while ago Gmail Notifier and BitTorrent disconnected while I was playing a game; I assumed it was just a connection problem but when I tried to actually open a page I discovered the connection had actually been shut off temporarily. Many ISPs will do this (every page you request redirects you to their error page instead), and it usually causes non-browser programs to fail as if the connection was just plain dead. (This can happen for various reasons; I get it every now and then due to connection problems until I reset the modem, or as I found out yesterday, massively exceeding bandwidth limits. )

Of course the biggest question is how exactly are you connected?

probably the network you are connected to is having issues right now. My friend lost her internet connection the other day but i was fine. So, hopefully, things are fixed at your end. If this keeps up, I suggest calling your ISP to find out what is going on.

Since this morning, I haven't been able to connect to AIM, nor connect to some websites.

Then, all of a sudden, I can.

Then, I suddenly get disconnected from those sites/AIM.

Is it really my internet connection being a bitch?

Edit: Seems they were upgrading my connection, w00t.
