Well, according to the articles, Brown appeared expendible. He was getting a reduced role (regardless of the Partiot's secondary woes) since we was going to be primarily a slot receiver and nothing more. Not sure how much of a CB role he would have since he was only there for nickel (possibly dime). Oh well, this cutting of marquee players reminds me of the Marlin's breakup fo 1997

Well, apparently, Ty Law's not alone...

Looks like they cut Troy Brown as well...

I understand them releasing Ty Law, but Brown I thought was rather unnecessary. He played a big part of the Pats D and didn't eat up THAT much cap space, as far as I know. Affordable at least.

Ty was such a phenomenal player. He played through (most) pain, and through some injuries. He was a pretty hard hitter for a corner, and just plain deadly on defence.

Needless to say, he laid down the law.

I don't consider it a dynasty either but if that's the term that the *media* wants to use, I'll use it.

Actually, I never considered the Patriots a dynasty from the start. ALL of those SB victories were close games, not one blowout. I'll consider them a dynasty if and only if they win it again next year, but that's neither here nor there.

Anyways, about the cut: it was expected of the Pats management. He was eating up cap space and they didn't need him, anymore. That's why they cut him. Why use up so much cap money on unneeded help? The only question now is: where will he end up?

I'd say problably Dallas. They've got the money for him, Parcells loves to bring in ex-Pats, have a valid roster spot for him. I don't think it's his best choice, but he very well might end up there sometime soon.

I'm willing to place my money on 'B' although I have nothing to back that up on. Not quite on the scale of the post-98' Bulls breakup, but still foundation shaking. Plus the other teams are catching up to them now talent-wise. The AFC is practically ready to blow up with others wanting to take it, and I think there's at least 4 teams ready to do so.

Well, the Patriots were fine without Law last season.

Law said something interesting, "I'd love to finish my career here, but this is a business -- I'm not ignorant to that. I'm trying to leave a legacy as a player, and to stay with one team throughout your career, that's pretty rare in this day and age. I also know there's been a lot of other great players who had to move on. I'll cross that bridge when I get to it."

So, if he really wants to be a great player, then he should take a pay cut, but he isn't willing to do that.

Oh yeah, this reminds me of what the Patriots did with Milloy and look where they ended up that year...

  • Romeo Cronnel

  • Teddy Bruschi - future uncertain, suffered a mild stroke
  • Ty Law

Yeah. Law had a huge contract, and I bet he wouldn't have taken a cut.

Well that one makes no sense to me.

Did the Pats have to do that for cap purposes?
