Thanks for the help guys. So from what you are saying it seems that SMB3 is set up differently, using the 8x16 mode as opposed to the 8x8 I'm used to seeing, and I have to take that into account when hacking. But at least I know that now. Even if the answer may have been obvious to others, it didn't really occur to me, so now that I know, in a sense I learned something new. I'll poke around with this more later.

I knew it used 8x16 mode the moment I first laid eyes on the VRAM. Does that make me a bad person?
????? .......What?

I don't think so................. I don't know.

I never fully understood this zero-page stuff. How do I change that $855C to point to something else, like $855E?

I don't really understand the first line of code here:

$DDC4:B1 02 LDA ($02),Y @ $855C = #$96
$DDC6:9D 01 02 STA $0201,X @ $0202 = #$00

These games are still very good in their own right. The only one I really played through was the first one, "Dr. Wily's Revenge." In fact, it may have been the first MM game I ever played. It was either that or Mega Man X. But I watched some videos of the other games, and they look really good, from the gameplay to the music and story. I don't really own any of these games, so I plan on buying all of them, but they look really cool, and I would code editors for these games if I knew how.

Capcom was going to release an Anniversary Collection for those 5 games back when they were releasing the AC for PS2, Xbox, and GameCube, but the GameBoy version got cancelled due to high costs in development. They were colorizing everything, and that would have been pretty cool to pick up. Obviously you can find some screenshots of it on the web, especially on GameSpot.

Does anyone have any of these games, or has a favorite one? Mega Man IV looks very interesting. I like how they remixed the stages. Toad Man's level is completey different, which is good. It would have sucked if they did a simple port-over.

The GameBoy Mega Mans have their own story going on, dependent from the NES games, and if you are fan of Mega Man, definitely worth picking these games up.

Anyone have a favorite? I know a lot of people like V.

I just got done playing GameBoy Mega Man II, and during the credits, it showed that Jumping-Spring enemy, that is in Heat Man's stage of the NES game. But, I didn't see one trace of that enemy during the game.

Also, you are right, this game was horrible. I liked the fact that the game had new music, but then when I heard how awful it was, better to use the NES music than new music that sucks. Also, the enemy placement and level design was horrible. And the game was very easy, and the battle with Quint was a piece of cake. When I got done beating him, I was like, "That's it?!" That's all that was. You didn't even have to use the weapon you got from him.

I played GB MM1 earlier today, just got done with GB MM2 now, and now I'm going to play GB MM3. This one should be better from what you are saying.

I never played this game before. But it looks colorful, and fun. And the graphics are nice, and easy on the eyes. Reminds me a little bit of SMB3. I'll have to give it a try sometime. Nice screenshots there.

I've noticed lately that YouTube has been updating their site a lot, trying to make it more user friendly, and adding cool new features. I like what they are doing.

How about a feature on this board, if you see a thread you like, you can click on a button or icon, or a check-box, and you can mark it as a favorite thread. So, when you log into your account, you can pull down a list of your favorite threads.

That way, three-four months later, when the thread is now on page 4 or 5, or by some chance found its way into the trash, you can click on the favorite, and it will take you right to the thread.

Otherwise you are just left with the board's search feature, and if you don't remember the title of that thread or the people that posted in it, you kinda have to search through a user's posts, which can be a pain in the ass if they have a lot of posts. And there is always a chance that the thread you liked isn't posted by the person you thought it was, rather by someone else, and it got popular. (Ex. Person A is making an awesome hack, but it was Person B that made the thread, and all of sudden Person A's hack becomes the focus of the topic.) And there is always a chance you forgot the name of the thread.

So, to get around this, you can simply tag the thread you like, as a favorite, that way you can always find it in your control panel!

Yay or nay?

Who knows what Capcom was smoking when they made the Mega Man Zero series. I agree that the new Zero sprites they used were horrible. I don't understand why they wanted to redo his appearance. There is an old expression. "If it isn't broken, don't fix it." The Super NES Zero looked way better and cooler. I guess they felt that since they were giving him his own series, that they would re-design him. But it's nice to see that they are finally catching on to that expression. They made Mega Man 9 in the old 8-bit style, and it was hit success. Your sprite work was very well done.

While at it, how about an option to rate threads too, like YouTube allows you to rate videos?

EDIT -

Also, how about allowing users to edit their thread titles? This would be nice, and php boards already allow this. Sometimes this is necessary, and the only way to do it is to PM a moderator or admin.

EDIT 2 -

Also, how about user comments? You can go on a user's profile, and post a comment, but the user has to accept the comment, otherwise it will not be posted.

Oh. lol, nevermind then. They shouldn't have let them design it then.

I'd like to give this a try, but it says that the download limit has been reached. It can only be downloaded 10 times?

Someone please upload it to some place else.

Wow, I'm impressed. Really. Your hack is on the same level as Matrixz's. You did all of this programming yourself? The presentation was awesome.

Damn...

I have definitely been inspired by the both of you.

My only complaint is that Chill Penguin is simply impossible to beat, but I'm sure you know about that, so it's okay.

Fantastic work there infidelity.

Are you keeping Elec Man in the game, or are you converting all of the bosses over to the mavericks from the X series?

I always thought that whole dividing-by-zero thing was weird myself.

If you have 1 slice of pizza in your hand, and you want to divide it by 1, then basically it is saying you want to divide it by itself, which you can't do, so it makes sense that you are left with the 1 slice that is still in your hands.

Now, if you have 8 slices, and you want to divide by 1, you can't divide 8 slices into 1, unless you are giving somebody the whole pie, so it makes sense to me that you are still left with 8 slices. If you give somebody that whole pie, you are giving them 1 WHOLE pie, which consists of 8 slices, so that whole dividing-by-one thing makes sense.

Then they say that anything divided by zero, whether it be 8, 5, or 9, is 0.

I have that same slice of pizza in my hand, and now I want to divide it by 0. I don't LOSE that slice. I still have it.

According to mathematics, I would lose that slice, which is impossible. If I am dividing it by 0, I am not dividing it by anything, so I still HAVE that 1 slice.

Special thanks to Matrixz a.k.a. Panophobia. Without his help, I would not have been able to finish this.

It took me 2 weeks of long, frustrating, trial and error, and over-nighters to do this one thing, and Matrixz really helped a lot.

This video shows off a new but familiar weapon to Mega Man 4. Enjoy!

Nice ideas there. I actually like them. I've been thinking about getting back into SMB3 hacking. I still have my hack, Dark Mario, to finish. I haven't worked on it in a really long time, because I got bored and was working on Mega Man: Fully Loaded. Now I'm not saying I would use these ideas, because I like to come up with my own stuff, and I wouldn't use these without permission anyway. But your ideas are a step in the right direction. I've been thinking of ASM hacks lately, what I can do to SMB3, and not much has come to mind. All of the good things have been done already.

Anyone pick up this baby yet? It is the only DS game that I actually want to get. I don't buy DS games very often. Since I don't own one single version of this game, I am most likely going to be buying this pretty soon. I miss the Super NES days.

I didn't even know there was a Retro Gamer magazine. Was this an online-published magazine, or was it an actual magazine? And they showed off ROM hacks in it? That's pretty neat. I wonder if there are anymore retro game magazines like this.

Do you guys think that there will be a Rockman No Constancy 2? These Japanese Rockman hacks are pretty cool. I wonder if the guy who did NC is working on a second one.
