Making the banner rotate with Daily Cycle would be awesome.
No, it wouldn't. That would just be totally annoying.

I like those banners KP9001. I definitely think we should use one of them.

Is this "Daily Cycle" one of the selectable board themes for individual users? If so, then that's okay. Don't get me wrong. Perhaps I was a little too harsh in saying that it would be "totally annoying." It's just, I remember a few times on this board, when the text colors would change a lot, and I found it to be quite annoying. I only use one board theme, the default one which you view when you are a guest.

Who knows, maybe they will. Capcom is the king of porting games and milking them.

I agree on the green banner as well. We want it to stand out.

By the way, who is able to put this new banner up? Do all of the admins have access to the database, or is it just the board owner? It's not really any of my business, but I just don't want to see all of this time going by, with no banner being put up.

Phase 1: New Banner - COMPLETE

Phase 2: Promoting the Board

Okay, it seems the banner situation has finally been taken care of! Now, we have to spread the word! Perhaps other gaming sites you visit, GameFAQs, GameSpot, YouTube, Your Own Geocities/Tripod Websites, at the end of any YouTube video you upload, Movie Fan Websites, Retro Gaming Sites, spread the word, put it in your sig! Don't go there with the purpose of advertising, just put it in your sig, or at the end of your YouTube videos, links on your websites. If you do that to people who are interested in retro gaming, they will come here, want to learn about ROM hacking, and thus, we got lots of activity!!

Remember when X jumps? It was supposed to be like that. It can easily be taken out if need be.

Hey guys, I need some advice on my Mega Man 2 hack (MM: Fully Loaded). I thought of the idea for my hack, back in June, I started coding it, I lost interest pretty quickly, but that was okay, because I had to restart the project anyway, because I needed the buttons I already coded, for something else. I restarted the project in the beginning of August, and I have done a tremendous amount of coding, but I've been thinking to myself, is all of it really necessary? Most of what I coded, all of these new features, aren't really needed. They are more of a "coolness" factor. I have successfully coded the engine to be like Mega Man ZX Advent, with 2 minor exceptions. I haven't coded the swap of the PPU graphics, because the game uses CHR-RAM, and I added something that ZX doesn't have, the ammo system, which is basically putting an 8-bullet limit, but you can easily reload by pressing up. And you can't switch back and forth between Normal and Mega Man until you aquire a DNA chip, which I am using the 1-UP sprite for.

Also, something that no other MM hack has done before, the Flashlight. Successfully coded. Hold down and press select to light up the area. But is it really necessary? I have also coded costume changes. In the final levels of the game, Dash will have matured through his adventure, and be wearing cooler "clothes" (palette changes based on level). I'm not coding the PPU graphics swap, because of the CHR-RAM, and that really puts a big dent in my plans, because I needed that to happen. Instead, I am using a palette change, which you can see. I coded a whole new block of code for the jumping sound. I coded a whole routine for the title screen, which sets the auto-reload on or off. All of my code is neat and clean, and is precise. I tried adding CHR-ROM to the end of my ROM, but when I did, the ROM shows blank graphics when you load it, but the game is really running. All you have is a black screen. I wanted to try to do the graphics swap with CHR-ROM swap, since CHR-RAM is harder to do.

Basically, I need some advice. What should I do with this? Should I continue with this, or release it and make something more simple? This is 2 months of really hard work and planning, even though it doesn't look like much. Most of the work was in the ASM code, which there must be at least 500 bytes, if not more, of code. Plus, the sewer level is in Heatman's stage, when it should probably be in Bubble Man's stage.

Here is the video, if you want to see if there is anything you do or do not like: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qYzkhhQLNcE

I never used it yet, and I most likely will pretty soon. I know I have to buy a Wii Classic Controller, but there is something about the Virtual Console I don't like. As it's name suggest, these games are only that, virtual. I'd rather own the actual game, and play it on the actual hardware it was meant to be played on. Just because I heard there was a limit on how many games you can have at one time, and if you fill up that space, you have to delete some to make room for new ones, where as if you own the actual game, you don't have to do that. How is the Virtual Console anyway? Does it emulate well for most of the games?

I'm sorry, but I don't really like the idea of this hack. I think one of the problems is that people try to take the easy way out. You're talking about taking everything in MM Powered Up, and putting it into MM5, thus creating an improved version of the original game.

1. There is the original Mega Man
2. There is Mega Man Remade from the Wily Wars
3. There is Mega Man Powered Up.

Really, there is no need for this hack at all. However, if you were to make an entirely new hack, something that is not a port or a remake, then you'd have my support. And I'm not trying to be a dick or anything. Not at all. I just think this is a waste of time when we have 3 alternatives to playing the first Mega Man game.

The hardest NES game that comes to mind was Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. You had to really practice at that game to get through it.

Nice videos guys. It's about time the activity on this forum is starting to go back up.

Lately, I've been playing Dr. Robotnik's Mean Bean Machine on my Sonic Mega Collection for PS2, and it is such a great game. It's fun, addictive, and simple. So, I've had Sonic on the brains lately.

Googie, I made this little hack just now, after seeing your video, just for the hell of it. It's called Sonic Mario. Mario is blue and can flip all the time, and if he gets hit, he loses all of his coins. I tried to produce the coins flying everywhere, but it would proabably take a lot more code.

When boredom strikes!!!!

The same thing could easily be said about Metroid hacks. I'm personally tired of seeing them. I don't see what's so damn great about Metroid. Mega Man over Metroid any day.

what's your hate with the megaman hacks? SO it's ok to have like 56 million threads about super mario hacking and the like but something new gains some steam and you guys are saying enough is enough?? Why does mario get treated differently?? I started this thread because i wanted to know about a rockman hack and immediately get flamed with "enough with the fucking megaman hacks" Give me a break, if you don't like rockman and megaman hacks why bother posting in this thread.

Im sure you would love it i chimed in on your hack thread with "Enough with the ---- fucking hacks.

I don't know man, i just don't get why the rockman hate on here. Someone please tell me why.....

XTTX
Well put. I don't get it either.

For example, I don't like golf, but do you see me going on a golf forum, and saying "Golf sucks." Why visit a golf forum if you don't like golf? It's the same thing in this situation. If you don't like Mega Man, they why bother posting in this thread?

And just to level the playing field, I also agree with what you said about SMW hacks. No one ever seems to say anything about that, do they? Let me be honest with you guys when I say this. I HAVE NO DESIRE or URGE to EVER play any SMW hack, because that game has been so over-hacked, its not even funny. And since I never really did play SMW hacks, I have nothing to worry about.

This one is better.

How come you made him ice blue like that?

And I agree with NetSplit. You should do the hard ASM coding first. If you can't do the ASM, then all of this easy stuff is going to waste. That's why I coded my engine for MMFL first, before really getting into the graphics work.

Sorry guys, polls can't be edited once you make them. So we're stuck with what's there.

Anyway, I have yet to vote, so I vote for Light Green.

messiaen, may I make a suggestion for your SM64 hack? Make a new font for the dialogue text. That is something that I couldn't stand about SM64. The original font is too sloppy. Make a font that is like this:

"Hey Mario! Are you here to save the Princess?"

It would look so much better, and a lot more legible.
