So, I rediscover the board after months of thinking it had vanished and, for some reason, I make my first post in the picture thread. Go figure.
Not my favorite picture, I think - it makes me look more like a Neanderthal than usual - but it's a pretty cool effect. From soccer my senior year of high school, so it must be fall of 2004, about three years ago. |

Posted by TommathyHere I am thinking that the dripping water gives the image a cool, borderline artistic edge, and you have to come along and ruin it for me. Dunno if I'll ever be able to look at that picture again. Thanks. ![]() |

I defy anyone (read Tommathy) to point out some sort of sexual undertone in this image.
By the way, I can't imagine how I ever thought my sideburns looked good when they were that long. Or that my hair ever looked good combed down like that. But whatever. |

Believe you me, I was plenty dirty and bloody - that picture must've been taken at halftime and, knowing our team, we'd already allowed about a dozen goals by then and so I'd spent plenty of time in the dirt with skinned knees.
If only it were in color, you'd see. Heh heh. |

My classes for the fall semester sound a bit more exciting than a lot of what you guys are taking. If you define "exciting" as "dry, boring English courses," that is.

Posted by SamuraiXWhen we read Beowulf, we kept the Modern and Old English versions alongside one another but rarely, if ever, referred to the latter. That was in my senior year of high school, though, and so I figure a 300-level college course is likely to focus at least slightly more on the Middle English in addition to Modern. I would assume that the Canterbury Tales would be easier to figure out than Beowulf, simply because it's written in a more recent style of the language. Sound about right? |

I'm no techie by any stretch, so I can't offer any significant advice, but one thing that has fixed any number of computer issues I've had in the past is simply updating drivers. It sounds like a "duh, obviously" kind of thing, but I've often overlooked that option and then come back to it to see that it fixes whatever problem I'm having, including problems with my sound card that I've had in the past. So, give it a try, I guess, if you haven't already . |

Like I told you earlier, I don't have much advice to offer on the parts themselves, but I can say this: if you're ordering from Newegg, find some way to have the parts shipped out of Jersey, if you can. I would've been stuck with about $100 in tax if I didn't have my computer parts shipped to my brother's apartment in New Rochelle, NY, because Newegg has a warehouse in Jersey and so anything shipped in-state is subject to tax.
Just a suggestion. |

To keep things as simple as possible, I would just move everything I want to keep to a different storage device, wipe and format the hard drive, and then start completely anew. I'm sure you've thought of that option, though. |

Posted by andy_k_250Yes, I agree, the wings and hair of the first drawing have to be my favorite part. They are intricate, but they frame the important details (the face and features) rather than drawing the eye away from them. |

I had no idea anyone here played TF2. Would be cool to get in a game.
Goldrush is great, and the game type is brilliant, I think. But it always, always, always becomes a sniper- and sentry-fest. Since I'm usually a heavy, I quickly get bored of not being able to move forward because I will get a bullet between the eyes if I so much as peek around a corner. (This is the worst in stage one, just past the first cap point.) The new medic update doesn't help, either, because I always seem to attract a medic buddy who's more concerned with working on his achievements than keeping me alive. I've had medics hold their uber for literally minutes at a time, letting me die in the process, just to get some achievement. But yeah, TF2 is great . |

Thanks...I just panicked when I tried to log in and it told me my username or password wasn't recognized - because, obviously, the username was different. |

Oh, well if it was Legion then it would make total sense, because he and I used to argue incessantly about that a few years back. Either way, I don't really care that it happened, I just wondered why it happened. |

I know board2 is kinda quiet, but I figure I'll try posting a question here before I go off and find a dedicated hardware forum somewhere, if only because I don't want to go through the trouble of registering at another board...
Anyway, though, simple question: does anyone know how much RAM Vista (specifically Home Premium 32-bit) can support? I've heard three or four gigs at most, and I presently have two but wonder if adding another one or two would be worth it. So, if anyone knows, just tell me and then I can get into the specifics of my computer's current specs or whatever else is relevant. Thanks. |

Thanks a lot for the quick reply, blackhole. And, yeah, the warning about Vista's about a year late. I was very cautiously considering taking a spin with Linux, but at the last moment I lost my nerve (and my confidence in my technical skills) and so went for something with a wider base. Maybe next time...
But anyway, what do you think of adding another 1GB? Would the move from 1 to 2GB have a visible impact, or would I be wasting my money? |

Ok then, to get specific, the most intensive task I use my computer for is gaming. (I also use it for miscellaneous homework/Internet/etc, but I imagine those tasks don't create the strain of, say, Oblivion on high settings.) So, a question that probably has a very obvious answer: would that extra GB be worth it for games? |
