Heh, I think it should be time for a new Yoshi Island editor. Maybe I should start a project with open source code... :/

...but what is the latest version of eggvine anyway? The latest of my local copies are 0.80 :/ I used to betatest eggvine, but I hardly used it since.

Amusingly, I find that shock sites... never shocks me anymore.

But yes, as blackhole said earlier in the thread... it's usage is the art. It even made cameos in various types of media... even mainstream ones.

On the other hand, if someone does want to make a new YI editor, talk to me. I'll give permission to use the EggVine data files (they're useful!) to anybody who's project looks half decent.
Seing how the EggVine data files are in a human readable format due to it's txt nature, yes they are quite useful. Expect me to ask for permission whenever I get around with the project, probably whenever I get my stupid school labs done (which is very very soon).

sorry for jacking your thread, but the idea of a new YI editor, or even updated, would corrupt YI hacking. more and more noobs are gonna jump on it, and fuck it up. its gonna end up just like SMW hacking did. but it would still be cool.
But it would also allow pros to work on a hack, without fiddling with the minor details all the time.

I'm actually sketching up a editor, though dunno if anything happens with it.

Game starts in about a hour. Anyone who can be on now, should be.

Download GRF's, binaries and stuff.

Some of the other videos are more information packed, but I guess the string ducky thing was charmy. And it was part of a contest to describe string theory under two minutes so...

The graphical style of Yoshi Island was made in protest of games like Donkey Kong Country, or so what I heard. Though from what I seen, SMW hacks who tries a diffrent graphical style... tend to come closer to YI in terms of style.

I just hope the stage size isn't too limited. Or the number of parts. <<

It's a feature that should been more often in games.

Fanboys exist because people make a choice early on and, out of simple insecurity, feel they must remind themselves that they made the right choice by deriding the other options.
Couldn't it boil down to "I really like franchise X, and Franchise Y is a competitor to franchise X... which makes Franchise Y my sworn enemy!"?

Of course, it might differ from fanboy to fanboy...

Haha, I always wanted a level like the one Alastor pasted together.

One stupid idea I had was having a level where there's only one hole... in the middle of the roof. That could lead to some long, but intresting matches.

Download

Remember, it hadn't been under much user-testing so there's a quite few bugs (Some rather amusing ones)... but it's mostly playable from what I seen. The classical way of playing is now gone, and is replaced with the idea of a Z axis. Now you can dig downwards, which can make intresting gameplay on a flat map. I just built a small house (probably will try turning it into a tower, hehe) on a such map, and then digged downwards in it. Works very well.

I just found out, you no longer need to irrigate (just create a farm plot). You can also create farms outdoors now, with wild berries and stuff.

Also the Z level system is awesome. I even created a small house made out of wood, and digged downwards in it (creating a huge "basement" ).

True, but at least farming is less annoying (besides I did seemingly choose a rather damp place... had to dig down a few levels to even find rock).

I even made my own water silo , which got salmons.Just want to point out that's just a test construction... as I might wind up building a bigger silo later one (imaging build a huge tower of silo, and then flood the world with it ). Canals and such works a little bit differently too, but I already figured it out after some random testing.

And heh, you're right. I had a farm on sand, but i'm putting most of the infrastructure down where there is rock, which is three levels down. I have some infrastructure overground, but it's rather tedious (but rewarding) to build a house. Apparently, tiles that have a floor tile over it is counted as indoors, it doesn't even to be in a closed space.

He just released a new version, supposed to fix some of the worst slowdowns issues. Almost makes me regret my own decision of abondening my fortress yesterday, but eh... I got rather bored and annoyed at the choice of terrain, so I went for a glacier. x Maybe I wind up carving a huge fortress in the ice or something haha. Now if I could get the ice to melt.

You can even create walls with ice (called water in the game xD).
