To be honest, after playing New Super Mario Bros Wii with two players... I think the SNES resolution is too small to allow proper fun Multiplayer. NSMB is flexible with the game resolution by stretching out the screen a little when players are on the opposite sides of the screen.
It's probably better to remake a engine from scratch for multiplayer SMW. ____________________ AIM: gamefreak1337, MSN: Emil_sim@spray.se, XMPP: ailure@xmpp.kafuka.org

Admittly in Mega-Mario's reference humans perceive green as the brightest, followed by red. Blue is the "least bright" color.
Y = (0.299 * R) + (0.587 * G) + (0.114 * B) Where Y would be the perceived brightness. Color are in values from 0.0 to 1.0 . However, I still think 0x0000FF on 0x000000 is not too hard to read... ____________________ AIM: gamefreak1337, MSN: Emil_sim@spray.se, XMPP: ailure@xmpp.kafuka.org

Noted and moved said post.
This thread reminds me we should probably consider a warning for IE6 users on the board. Even major sites like Youtube is deprecating IE6 support... ____________________ AIM: gamefreak1337, MSN: Emil_sim@spray.se, XMPP: ailure@xmpp.kafuka.org

Maybe if it was hand-drawn looking like it was made by a real cartographer... but that would involve way more work.
Wouldn't hurt to put them on e-bay for the same cost you "produced them" for. ____________________ AIM: gamefreak1337, MSN: Emil_sim@spray.se, XMPP: ailure@xmpp.kafuka.org

Posted by DahrkDaizHehe, reminds me how I thought all those years there was more secret levels in SMB3 that I just hadn't found (and wasn't mentioned in the strategy guide I had). Thanks due to the beta screenshots on the back of the box with the unused level and beta World 1. Made me more happy to see the unused levels (despite that most of them are kind of dull). Best way to put out secrets is placing them subtle, like a white platform in a place that otherwise have a green platform... ____________________ AIM: gamefreak1337, MSN: Emil_sim@spray.se, XMPP: ailure@xmpp.kafuka.org

Posted by GreyMarioActually the current Photoshop UI is said to nto come from being designed much better, but mostly people being used to that kind of user interface. Supposedly Photoshop split things into multiple windows before, but had to put everything under a single window due to limitations of Windows 3.1 and then people simple just got used to it. I'm not even sure what problem people have with the GIMP UI. Just take a few minutes to learn where everything is. The only legit complaint I heard regarding GIMP is that it lacks CMYK support (at least last I checked). But that should only be a concern if you have one of those 10K+ USD color calibrated monitors and works with printing. Edit: (Looking up there's GIMP plugins for CMYK). ____________________ AIM: gamefreak1337, MSN: Emil_sim@spray.se, XMPP: ailure@xmpp.kafuka.org

Seeing threads with 56K warnings starts to bug me, and I'm actually really curious if we really need to consider the bandwidth of people nowadays.
And as a general rule of thumb, just pick the one closest to your speed. If you have 8 mbit, just select 10 mbit. ____________________ AIM: gamefreak1337, MSN: Emil_sim@spray.se, XMPP: ailure@xmpp.kafuka.org

Would be funny to make something that automatically tags threads if they're going over... let say 1 megabyte in total. Possible to do, but I dunno if it's worth it. ____________________ AIM: gamefreak1337, MSN: Emil_sim@spray.se, XMPP: ailure@xmpp.kafuka.org

Well ok it's not out yet, but it is very soon. There's a quite stable RC release right now which also installs the open graphics if you lack the orginal TTD graphics, so it's a standalone game now. It can still use TTD graphics for those people who prefer it. I already tested the new graphics a bit, and it looks similar enough to the original graphics to not clash too badly with custom stuff that assumes the original look.
I might get a multiplayer game going this thursday/friday. I put up a test server with the newGRFs I migtht use, server info and connection info here. It's paused and with the password test for now. The game will download the GRF's for you if you try to join the server, as I took care to only use newGRF's that openTTD is able to download automatically. I'm going to try using FIRS for industries. It tries to make industries more interesting. Unlike some sets, it have fairly permissive stockpiling, and industry growth can be indirectly encouraged by the player (by shipping engineering supplies to the industry). Thoughts? ____________________ AIM: gamefreak1337, MSN: Emil_sim@spray.se, XMPP: ailure@xmpp.kafuka.org

Well the publisher behind Rollercoaster Tycoon is still alive. While Microprose isn't. Plus I always thought Transport Tycoon was the more fun game.
Also impressive 32BPP projects are startng to pop up... (image) ____________________ AIM: gamefreak1337, MSN: Emil_sim@spray.se, XMPP: ailure@xmpp.kafuka.org

I'm thinking of using NuTracks for more track variation (and works as a lategame moneysink without ruining it early on). It adds a few tracktypes, with various speed limits.
Edit: Actually it's a little bit... alpha. It dosen't even run in RC2 currently. Edit2: It runs in RC3 but is kind of... crap currently. The train depots are broken. ____________________ AIM: gamefreak1337, MSN: Emil_sim@spray.se, XMPP: ailure@xmpp.kafuka.org

Usually you should keep yourself to more managable code, unless you need the speed from "clever code". And you should know what they say about premature optimization...
Plus I suspect todays homebrew programmers have way better debugging programs than most programmers back in the 80's/early 90's. And more knowledge of hardware quirks and tricks (such as using "undocumented opcodes" for optimization). ____________________ AIM: gamefreak1337, MSN: Emil_sim@spray.se, XMPP: ailure@xmpp.kafuka.org
