I talk very seldomly to myself when I'm alone... but more often when people are in earshot. Does swearing while at work count?

Top Gear Rally - Jungle

This is one hell of an obscure game. This is the best music track. Ignore the shitty intro, the OP is retarded.

Also: I never really got into the Ys games... it's interesting and this music makes me want to play them. 8/10.

Naw, it's proportional to what level you are. If it was based on attack points, I'd be gaining levels faster than America puts on weight.

I'm going to move this to the Help/Suggestions/Bug Reports forum.

I think it's great that you've returned to work on this hack! Seeing this kind of stuff going on makes me want to work on mine!

As far as the music goes, I think that any NES version of those songs would sound nasty... It's just the type of track that they are. The songs in their current form are fine, but it just wouldn't make the transition well. The first track you posted will work fine. As for the music actually getting into the ROM you'd have to find extra space in the ROM somewhere and figure out the music format that it uses.

Graphics look great! I'm glad that you took the time to change them, it makes it feel a lot better.

As you might already know, JaSp made a music inserter for SMB3. If you were to somehow find a compatible MIDI file of the tracks that you want to use, you could insert them into your ROM with the converter/inserter tools. Problem is, it only works for the Reuben ROM at the moment and even then it has some game-breaking bugs. My hack's custom music has been rolled back to the original because of this.

By "compatible" MIDI track I mean most MIDI files don't really work with the converter... it gets messed up in the process.

So how could I let this shit get 3 pages buried?

Anywho, I'm kinda itchin' to do some hacking again, but I'm lacking some ideas to get the ball rolling again. Any particular requests or ideas any of you guys have? I'm kinda relying on you guys for an idea or two for motivation... So, anything?

Just letting everyone know that DD's finally settled down (enough) to start picking up on Reuben again. Supposedly the plan is to work out the bugs before continuing on with features. Everything is still tentative though so just keep that in mind.

Edit: Holy shit, ninja'd... I posted it on my phone. I wondered who edited the damn thread title.

Two of the biggest annoyances out of the way. Thank you so much, DD. Have this puppy.

Moved to Gaming, since it fits better there. Also, going by the CG art I'd say the DS one looks badass... though for nostalgia the SNES one puts up a good fight. I think I'm going to need to see some more evidence before voting.

Yeah, maybe further down the road we can get that Music utility up to snuff! I say we because I'd be willing to do whatever necessary that I am capable of doing. Also, I spoke to DJBouche regarding taking advantage of the two extra square channels that the MMC5 gives you. He understands that this means rewriting/revers eengineering the SMB3 music engine. So, if you have anything to show him just stop into #acmlm and drop off whatever notes you might have! I'm sure it'd speed up the process and promote activity of the project itself, since it's a big one.

Holy fucking shit... This game raped my childhood long ago and now I finally get to rape it back! REVENGE!

I loved this game when I was young though, but I was young enough that it scared the shit out of me, so I didn't play it as much. I always *ALWAYS* played it on Halloween!

You're counting on DJ Bouche to speed things up?
As in, the same Bouche that was supposed to make Track Designer 2 and help me with my SMK hack, who promised this and that, built the hype and all, then silently left at some point, so I ended up making my own Super Mario Kart editor?

Good luck!
Yep, that'd be the same. But really, anything that can help me fill in the holes here is going to work. I mean, come on, who else is gonna fucking work on the SMB3 music engine? Whenever someone comes along and has the skills and is willing to work on it, guess what? You bet your ass I'm going to ask!

You people rely on these other people to do your shit then get pissed off when they don't come through? What the fuck? They don't owe you anything, so lay off. You guys should be lucky that these people use the information they have to make something nobody otherwise would due to lack of information and skill.

I don't want to hear shit from any of you unless you are paying them a damn salary.

[Note: I might rely on them but the difference between me and others is the fact I don't piss and moan when shit doesn't happen.]

See, you got burned because you went into the whole thing expecting someone (or something from someone) to do something for you. If you don't expect anything in the first place and instead expect that they *won't* do anĂ½thing, everything I have said will make sense. But that's precisely what I'm saying though, you really can't expect anything from anyone if you don't pay them or offer some other monetary value. The only exception is family, only in some cases.

As for derailing this thread: Honestly, I believe this is on topic somewhat due to those whining about promises.

I'm going to elaborate on this further since I was posting from my phone the past two posts and was at work. Couldn't give a more complete response.

You'll hopefully end up finding out reliability and motivation weigh more than skills. But yeah, I understand, you do with what you have.

I knew about these two characteristics (among other appropriate ones here) from the beginning. You implied that I didn't, but then again, I didn't sound like someone who did right off the bat.

That was incredibly stupid. Seriously... I thought you were a tad smarter.
Someone comes in, says "Hey guys, look at me, I'm gonna do that!", then in the end, he doesn't do anything and just disappears.
At least, I'd have appreciated if he had the balls to tell me he didn't feel like doing it anymore. That'd have been fine. But no, not a word. Simply ignoring PMs and mails.

You're basing this whole situation on a point-of-view which, quite frankly, is flawed. What you need to understand here is that when you enter a verbal agreement on the internet, anything can go wrong at any time. You expected something from someone because they made a verbal commitment with you. Sorry, but that's not how it works. I'm not saying it's right, but so it is. Having this attitude sets you up to be screwed. Royally. What takes the cake here is that you insult my intelligence based on a flawed understanding.

You mean, like, all the information that Bouche had and didn't share with me, so I had to waste time weeks figuring out something he already did?

In all honesty, it may not sound like it, but I'm not mad at Bouche. I don't really care, and I'm not out to get revenge. I just expected better. Someone warned me about him at the time, but I still wanted to believe.

Yeah, this kind of foresight is helpful with any attitude one might have. But just to re-enforce my point:

I just expected better.
I for one believe as far as this: I expect nothing until it's in my hands already.

The fact I don't pay doesn't mean I can't expect people to have a sense of responsibility and ethics. But to each his own, I guess.

I'm out of this thread because I don't want to hijack DD's thread any further.
I agree that the people you deal with on a regular basis (and even irregular) should have these qualities and standards but my point is sometimes they don't. If you go along expecting everyone to have these qualities you're going to run into problems.

tl;dr - Hope for the best.

Also, I think you're a cool guy and doesn't afraid of anything. What you had to say helped me to elaborate why I get irritated at guys like Angelfage. That's all.

Well, you're the only one worth debating with. Angelfage is causing me to grip my banhammer tightly.

Also, the main reason I am using Reuben is because DD has me as one of his beta testers. I'm going through and making a hack so I can find bugs that one might encounter while making their own hack. If DD would cancel this editor on the spot I wouldn't be totally devastated.

Isn't that basically what you're doing now?
No. I'm not expecting anything. If something gets done, fine. If it doesn't, then also fine. Either way I'm one step ahead if nothing happens and two steps ahead if something does.

Well, the thing is, I only know stuff about the music data format, not the music engine itself with all its $4000ish registers things and all, so I'm not sure my notes would help *that* much.
Hell, *I'd* like to see your notes if you're willing. Anything helps DJBouche as long as it's music related.

I forgot to mention this as well - FCEUXD and the SP version don't work for me. FCEUXD worked normally the first couple of weeks or so for me, but after that it wouldn't open properly. It would only appear in the taskbar when I start up the program and I have to maximize it by right-clicking on it. And once I opened up a tool like the hex editor both of them would minimize to the taskbar and would never appear again.
You need to delete the .cfg file it uses. Or open it up in notepad and edit its x/y position. Another fix that worked for me is to hit F4 to go to fullscreen then hit it again to return. This should reset its position.

Got a small update for my hack... just had to show this one off!

Pulsed laser turret. It shoots a straight laser too, but most of the time it shoots in a pulsed fashion. It could be due to DD's new level format or it could be the autoscrolling I'm using for this level.

Either way, the pic does not do it justice.
