I'd really like to implement that, but I just don't have the necessary ASM skills to accomplish this yet. I really want to get into sprite hacking, but it's beyond my abilities as of late.

I also want to complete an ASM hack of a world 8 koopa kid. Fix his graphics. It seems to function, it just needs to work graphically and with my world order hack, go from world 8 to world 4 or whatever.

You guys.

It smells like brown in here. Please clean up your posts and act like MEN!

Also, sometimes clinical trials IS an option if you're one poor little bastard. That's how I'm going to make it to LA to take part in There Will Be Brawl.

Whoever is responsible for the code that is making zbyte look like an admin, please remove it. You know who you are.

Fixed the scary zbyte admin color thingy. Dammit, Nightkev.

Presidential browser choice? Probably was revealed when Obama became president because he's he's good at the internets.

Fuck making your own birthday threads. I think you've been around long enough and made an (annoying) name for youself that you should automatically have one made for you. I was gonna do it, but you beat me to it.

Also, yeah, we don't need any more shitty drivers on the road. Happy Birthday!

What is the difference between this and your other thread?

I noticed that in SMB3 Workshop the Hilly graphics are represented one way while in game they're different. For some reason, the editor's hilly TSA is different than the game's TSA. I noticed this when editing graphics real-time in the editor. There are some tiles in the hilly graphics that don't appear in the game's graphics. Strange.

I know how this feels. I've had a hardware failure before, and it was a harddrive. I lost what it was I was working on and didn't have any backups made. It was my biggest achievement to date and it was so suddenly gone.

Lucky for you, you had a backup.

And what's with all this bad luck with Megaman hacking lately? Fuck bad luck. Let's hope it doesn't get rubbed off onto the SMB3 scene. *knock on wood*

kuja, you have my support.

I made a Firefox Persona based on the "Nostalgia" theme currently on board2.

Here's the direct link to it.

It looks very mellow and easy to read when installed. I had a darker version up, but it was too hard on the eyes and didn't mix well with the icons on the bookmarks toolbar.

Naw, don't really have that kind of control over it. It basically only gives you the option of adding the images and specifying font color. That's all.

I still think it looks great considering how few my options were.

Got another issue here with my hack.

Here's what the editor shows (Linked due to size)

This is what shows in-game. Doesn't show what the editor shows. The "f" tiles are duplicate empty tiles I replaced with "f" tiles to denote they are "free" and editable. I want to make use of these tiles later on with the TSA editor. The level in question is World 3-4, but I have a pointer in World 7 pointed to this level. Another native level to this world doesn't have this problem though...

On a side note, the TSA editor doesn't show any tiles with FF in it either. I'm sure I'm loading the correct ROM.

Same tileset. I have no idea what the hell is going on.

Well, I know that object based games generally convert those objects into RAM when the level is loaded. (This was discussed in the SMA4 thread, with Kawa, who's a tilemap master.) So, modification of code from object-based to a tilemap-based is an entirely better design solution, but I imagine it takes up more space.

I would definitely be willing to help you find any data for an editor. I know you were doing an editor at one point. I also know you've been pretty busy for a while with IRL, but you somehow found a way to do *some* hacking.

Well, as far as the overworld goes, I've got a few suggestions...

1) Free-Roam Maps

2) Ability to change the size of the map, maybe both horizontally and vertically

3) World Order change (I've added this ASM hack myself, but I need to work out the numbering)

4) Increase sprite limits

5) for the love of all that is sacred, a better pipe system, or an easy way of editing the existing one.

6) An expanded choice of graphic tiles to choose from.

7) Choices for animation properties for each world (No animation a la World 5, fast/slow animation, 2-frames of animation, 8 frames of animation)

While hacking the World Order, I had help in finding a couple of addresses that check (what I believe to be) the certain scrolling status (it checked for worlds $04 and world $07, worlds 5 and 8, the only worlds with special scrolling exceptions) and another check on the same address for animation in world 5.

Right now, I am currently in a medical research facility where I have nothing but free time.

I am an intermediate hacker... I'm currently getting into the basics of ASM. I somewhat know my way around a ROM.

I'd like to help out any way I can, especially if it helps me out with the progress of my hack.

I think I may remember you from back in the day... but a lot of us went our own separate ways.

Trelior's right though, that other thread over there is the place for intros and whatnot.

I remember having a sleeping "schedule" so fucked up that my first meal was my midnight snack. Sometimes I'd realize it and stay up juuuuust a little bit longer so my first meal was breakfast... then, I'd realize that it's boring to get up so early, so I'd sleep in. Then, the whole damn cycle would start again.

I was around when people posted more than 100 times a day legitimately. I might have been as active then as I am now, which is why I was pretty much a recluse compared to the rest of these guys. I'm an oldbie, just not as recognized because of this.

But, 100 posts a day seems fair, but I'm sure we can get that count up higher. We just need some way to get the masses to come here. We've got quite a bit of NES hacking going on here, so we may see a boost coming up if a certain user here plays their cards right.

Also, this is my 999th post and I was gonna do some 999 "sign of the angel thing" but i'm lazy and that's gay.

I have been thinking about getting a cat... My dog is pretty old so when she finally passes, I will probably cave in and get one.

Also, I just got a new Blackberry, which I am currently using to post this.

This also happens to be post #1000!

I'm early enough in production of my hack to stop it and just use DD's editor. I'd have to re-create the levels which would be much easier because I wouldn't be as limited with tiles, pointers, and space; I could do what I truly wanted. I would also have to recreate the title screen as well, which might be okay, but I'd like to be able to keep my idea about the same as my current one. I'd also have to transfer all of my graphics over, and that would be a minor obstacle as well.

If DD's editor is as easy to use as he says it will be, my hack will be done in a very small amount of time. You rock, DD!

My goodness. :o

I've been talking with you on IRC about this but it still just sounds amazing when you describe it here in the thread.

I'd like to compliment you on your willingness to lift barriers that not many are willing to take a shot at. Those who are willing and are desirous to do so lack the necessary skills to do such a thing, among other reasons. You have the coding skills and nobody knows the ROM better than you do.

So, all those blank map16 tiles... can they be edited and be usable? Also, how are animations handled? I assume it will still be (bankswapping I think?) so you don't have to specify TSA for each frame?

082551» <KP9000> goddammit kawa
082601» <Kawa> Whaaaaat?
082603» <KP9000> it's funny but unnecessary
082612» * Kawa shrugs

Well, anyway, I'm not opposed to hacks such as this, even though it brings out the immaturity in all of us (Jay & Silent bob would love this) but it's still ROM-hacking no matter how you look at it. It's more a novelty hack than anything else. I probably wouldn't download it, but then again, I probably wouldn't buy a pile of fake dog shit either. Some people do, and that's why fake dog shit exists. So, no thread closure from me unless Kawa keeps his shenanigans up.

As far as image linking goes, I personally don't care about this sort of thing, and the thread title is already very descriptive of the content. You can't really expect to click on a thread like that and expect to see anything less.

I'm looking forward to a Mario 3 hack of this, for teh lulz.
