Let me rephrase, then. If you are a gamer with a PC and the gamepad you have sucks, then you are a sorry douche.

Anyways, you're on a rom hacking section of a forum, just about anything we talk about requires a keyboard or a gamepad. Oh and I've seen Gamecube/PS2/XBOX to USB converters for like $10, and I mean all three to USB.
Grey Mario: Don't bash PC games for needing a (not-so-sucky) gamepad when it's obviously your fault for not having one in the first place.

Alright, back on track.

I've missed hacking Super Metroid. Making graphics is pretty much the most rewarding, I believe. I'll be able to do that with other games, but making graphics for this games requires a certain art style that I'm best in. Darker settings in games are best for me, the other bright games (SMW) I haven't really tried my hand at. Maybe when the oppurtunity presents itself, I might be able to try to make graphics for a game like that.

Just no interesting topics for them to post in!
Let's fix that, shall we? For god sakes people, your lives can't be that dull. General chat is seriously lacking exactly what it's named after.

I remember when my town went pitch black. I was out of town at the time of power loss, so when I drove in, everything was black. It's as if the town just disappeared. There were very few emergency lights. After I got home, I flicked the light switch out of habit and from out of the window I could see the entire sky turn a bright blue. It was the power plant, and someone obviously fucked up. After a few more intense power surges, I saw tens of emergency vehicles charge down the street. Power was eventually restored, though I don't know how.

Pretty scary shit right there.

This reminds me. This winter, after getting out of Guilty Gear club, when it was a little after midnight, we all just went out of the building we were in, to discover the sky was red, it was snowing, and an alarm was going off somewhere. Power wasn't out, but... It was Silent Hill-tastic.
Power going out is somewhat known for being scary, so I wrote it that way. Call it a writer taking a break for too long. Also watching Star Trek TNG, so that might have had a small influence on my post as well. =p

I was sick of being limited by this. It was basically the one limitation that really pissed me off. It was like saying "No, you aren't allowed to be creative anymore". I know, it's NES hacking and you have to be used to limitations, but I see this as more of a nuisance than anything. I'm glad to see DD's finally done something about it. Great work!

One thing though, will each level be saved separately in a directory or will it save to one file to keep clutter down? Maybe an option to choose between the two?

I'm too curious about meeting people from afar, the internet, or any combination of both for my own good.
I feel the same way, but nobody is near me except for Muldoon. Even then my serious lack of good transportation and availability within my schedule prevents me as well. Not to mention funds... I suck at rl.

You don't live in Sweden, last I checked
How does that relate to meeting people from the internet? My point was that there wasn't anyone near me. I live in AZ, and everyone (except Muldoon and I) are smart as hell to stay away from this place. Actually, even Muldoon is smart because at least he's in the mountains.

omfg it's xkeeper in disguise

As for Press Start K being the best, yes it is. But two problems...

1. Set it for every font in your Appearance settings. Then launch Firefox and look at your bookmarks.
2. Doesn't come default with Windows.
I only use that font in IRC and a couple of other apps. It does indeed look shitty when upscaled or downscaled. You have to upscale in multiples of its' 1:1 ratio original size for it to look good.

If buying a mac is the only thing stopping you from hacking Contra, then.... um... fucking buy a mac. Other gamers would argue that having to buy a mac is fucking stupid considering Contra's awesomeness.

Naturally, most people would lean toward the latter, especially the reputation associated with having a mac, and the lack of money. Seeing as you asked for information regarding making your own windows editor, many of us wouldn't have to argue for very long.

Sorry...I need a new keyboard. At times keys do not work it was supposed to say "Seeing"
Alzheimer's disease too? You seem to have forgot a "what" in there. We don't need no old fartbags up in here creating hacks that resemble how things were like in the old days. When and if they can fucking remember. =p

You guys seriously need to be more receptive of this sort of thing. M64 hacking isn't really that big, and it's rare to see someone actually hacking this game this extensively. (I didn't say creatively.) Just because you find a discrepancy in his work or notice the simplicity of something he did, you shouldn't be an ass to him.

messiaen, good work. I sure as hell aren't a SM64 hacker, and I doubt I'll ever be one. You're doing the shit probably nobody else wants to do. Tinkering around is essential and is the very beginning of hacking. Soon you'll make a level that's practical and playable, and not long after that you'll have a full SM64 hack on your hands.

Oh... sorry, I thought I said in my first post that I lived in AZ. Guess not.

And I don't care where you live, gas is fucking expensive, so everyone has the right to complain. Find me one place where it's practically affordable and I might even fucking move there.

Being that we're now talking about something that requires gas to travel around, backpacking requires none, so I might just do that from now on. Yeah, that's right, I'll take 2 hours to travel to work every day, carry my uniform and trail mix with me on the main roads. I'll fit in right with the weirdos.

Someone should really smack Valve upside the head and tell them to start thinking.
They apparently had brainstormers, and level designers, but not too many brainstorming level designers.

Anyway, I'd have to go for Unreal Tournament 2004. It's replayablity was insane thanks to user generated content. That game is awesome in my book for that reason.

Ummm yeah, I'd rather see a video of someone laying the groundwork for something that could potentially be awesome in pretty much uncharted waters instead of seeing people go "fuck it, there's no real documentation for that."

It would be a lot different if it was something that's already been hacked extensively, but he's working on something that isn't. The more small discoveries people make for a game like SM64, the closer people will be to doing something pretty damn impressive.

So in short, keep up the good work.
Couldn't have said it better myself. ROM-Hacking used to be about what messiaen is doing: experimenting, searching, and good ol' trial and error. Now, the community defines ROM-Hacking with its editors. Point-and-click is how it's done, for the most part. Most hacks can be accomplished nowadays without even knowing basic HEX. Old-School hacking isn't as popular anymore... or just not like it used to be. Since the beginning of hacking roms, more and more data was discovered, and work has been reduced in its redundancy thanks to editors for the sake of convenience.

That being said, someone that actually *does* come around with the whole old-school hacking attitude isn't being treated the same in this newer hacking community.

Fuck, I feel like Dr. Phil now...
