Changed the color to a very light shade of brown (#ffefdf). Also changed color for links so they're more visible.
Better. Though, the quote is a bit obnoxious to look at.

Edit: And when you don't have much text, your layout cuts out before the bottom border. Looks poor.

Quotebox style changed: nuked the horizontal lines, more narrow border, and more padding.

Also, I'm going to fix the background issue on small posts. But I didn't figure out a way to arrange for that yet.
Your quotebox is still a bit wide, isn't it? It really stands out stacking so many times when multiquoted. Wide lines are irritating to the eye.
