Hello all. I was looking at the unused sprites and noticed that two were within the range of the special commands. I picked one - EC - and started to experiment.
I still have trouble believing Nintendo left this out on purpose. This is an autoscroller that starts with a horizontal layer 1 level, then switches to a vertical layer 2 section. I put up a MWL file on my friend's server: http://67.183.146.143/SpriteEC.mwl Try it out. (Make sure the number of screens is set to 3.) ____________________ "I'm sick of it and I'm out. An AVI? Only if you're willing to download a 563-megabyte monster! (And I'll have to upload it!)
How about an animated GIF? ____________________ "I'm sick of it and I'm out. See you around." ~Cpu's last post here |

The size would be mainly due to the compression (or lack thereof).
An animated GIF and an IPS: http://67.183.146.143/DemoEC.gif http://67.183.146.143/SpriteEC.ips (Go to Yoshi's Island 1) EDIT: Or use Ninetales' Lordlazer, to answer your question on scrolling: This sprite basically scrolls through layer 1 like a normal horizontal scroll, except on the last screen which should have no layer 1 objects. When it reaches here, layer 2 becomes solid and scrolls in. Then the horizontal scroll stops, layer 1 disappears, and the vertical scroll starts. Basically, yes. ____________________ "I'm sick of it and I'm out. See you around." ~Cpu's last post here |

I probably should have mentioned this before, but if you change the level mode in LM to 07, you can edit the layer 2 data.

Forte,
Sprite F1 is actually a scroller too when horizontal and vertical scrolling is set to "none". Compare EC and F1: http://67.183.146.143/scroll.ips (EC is in YI1, F1 in YI2) From the looks of things, I started something. Back to experimenting... Edit: Ahh, I've been meaning to do this. Here's a picture of how Lunar Magic probably should render levels with sprite EC or F1. http://67.183.146.143/F1render.png ____________________ "I'm sick of it and I'm out. I may not know the location of the second sprite table or how it switches mode mid-level, but I can take an educated guess on the latter. As FuSoYa said way back in archive one:
Posted by FuSoYa (http://acmlm.cjb.net:2/boardb/thread.php?id=5760) The mixed memory map is a horizontal layer 1 and a vertical layer 2. (To see that, switch the level mode from 6 to 7 and hide layer 1.) This allows the final screen to scroll in the right side of layer 2, hide layer 1, and start scrolling vertically. However, sprites don't interact properly (incomplete programming?) and the exit setting for the final screen applies to the entire vertical section. ____________________ "I'm sick of it and I'm out. I just tried changing some sprite settings, but when I changed them back, sprite interaction worked fine. I guess there was a problem with one of my earlier tests.
I'll have to check sprite interaction with other sprites and see if I can figure out what went wrong. Edit: Ha, I finally nailed the little bugger. Apparently the sprites were appearing before layer 2 was solid. That's why it didn't work. ____________________ "I'm sick of it and I'm out. See you around." ~Cpu's last post here |

You can prevent the garbage by setting the level mode to 05 or 06. But that's not the full potential of sprite EB. This is a list of all functions that I could find... It's really interesting.
http://67.183.146.143/eb.txt edit: I just now noticed... Cx 1 isn't layer 2 only. But this IPS demonstrates by far the most interesting feature of sprite EB. http://67.183.146.143/left.ips ____________________ "I'm sick of it and I'm out. See you around." ~Cpu's last post here |

I notice that you were all interested by that. After more searching, I found that sprite E8 (and its copy, E7) can be used for a much more useful scroll.

That's odd. If I knew more Japanese I might be able to read the site but Google will have to do.
Incidentally, I managed to get Google to translate some interesting results with Unicode characters. Does "Smilingly identical Ju Yin" mean anything to you? 鵴囅捖裀? HTML character codes: ৹ᄂ鵴囅捖裀 Inserting FFFE* followed by the code in a Hex editor: 契ȑ璝寣䇘앖噣삈 ...If I get back to programming, this goes in ALL of my programs. *This is an indicator that the file is unicode. ____________________ "I'm sick of it and I'm out. The program won't run for me either.
I'm afraid that the program relies on a different version of the GTK+ libraries, but Zelda 3 prototype ROM? Me like. ____________________ "I'm sick of it and I'm out. See you around." ~Cpu's last post here |

I'm going to make an adapter for it. I would like some suggestions for what kind of microcontroller I should use. I would prefer cheap with a serial/USB connection for upgrades. I don't really care if I have to learn some obscure assembly language to be able to program it.
Information about the Nintendo 64/Gamecube controller data protocols would be appreciated too, since I would like to have rumble support. Any suggestions? ____________________ "I'm sick of it and I'm out. See you around." ~Cpu's last post here |

Nintendo 64 controllers are good for playing Nintendo 64 games. You can download Nintendo 64 games on the Wii. The Wii has gamecube controller ports. Why not have a Nintendo 64 controller for the Nintendo 64 games?
Well, if nobody has any information, I'll keep looking on Google. I wonder if a BASIC stamp can run fast enough... 1 microsecend accuracy? Yikes, what was Nintendo thinking? ____________________ "I'm sick of it and I'm out. See you around." ~Cpu's last post here |

Next to me is an Emachines T1090 that is (amazingly) still useable.
In various locations are ancient machines from the time before Windows 2000, most notably the one on the floor that has a great (old) MIDI-synth sound card. And, I'm typing this on a Compaq Presario that I improved upon. CPU: AMD Athlon 900Mhz (original) RAM: 320 MB HD: 90gb total (40, 30, and 20gb) Optical: DVD-ROM + CD-RW Video: 3 outdated adaptes (1 in use) #1 - Creative Labs Graphics Blaster Exxtreme #2 - Matrox Graphics Millenium PCI #3 - nVidia Vanta or Vanta LT (original) I think the video card I'm using (the Creative) is dying. (Barely visible fluctuation in brightness, I noticed it when I toggled animation in Lunar Magic.) TThe Matrox, on the other hand, glitches graphics; mainly dotted lines. The nVidia messes up colors when I try tto play DVDs in VLC. And I need a new keyboard. This one types double t's sometimes. (See the above section.) I won't mention my box of computer parts... ____________________ "I'm sick of it and I'm out. See you around." ~Cpu's last post here |

My suggestion: Block http://209.85.51.151/ and get rid of all 5 million domains in one. (I think that will work, but I don't know how you're blocking them.)
To reset the search, type "about:config" in the address bar then filter for "keyword.URL" and change the bad link. Improve your search while you're at it. ____________________ "I'm sick of it and I'm out. See you around." ~Cpu's last post here |
