I came back to post this:

I second this.

Agreed.

So I passed Tyson and have gotten to the GnG segment. I'm currently at the stupid up/down spikes tunnel. Stupid things.

You fix the blue around the OW Sonic by changing the colors for the OW border. It's not really a "fix" per-se, but it's a decent workaround. The colors for the OW border are in Palettes 0 and 1 on the right half. Change anything that looks beige to dark beige in order to make sure you hit all the border values.

Unlock it with Recover Lunar Magic. It's in the Tools section of SMWCentral. It's a command prompt program so don't come at us saying that double-clicking on it doesn't do anything.

The very final boss battle must have the SSBB Final Destination theme somehow in it.

I totally agree. It has to be the most epic Smash Bros music I've heard ever.

Update from my end: <_> I haven't been working much of this at all. I've been hooked to playing Fire Emblem 7, La-Mulana, and IWBTG for a while now instead of hacking. I haven't even worked on my SM hack recently.

From a small side hack I may or may not ever finish. It was originally going to be a Christmas 2007 gift but I never finished it. All the FG/BG graphics minus the flames are totally custom.

Just a half flooded room in Cyclonia.

Also, small video preview of Cyclonia as well:

Nice job pulling this from SNN and I. I don't really mind. "Imitation is the greatest form of flattery." As said before however, there likely won't be many people participating here because most are doing it over on SMWC. But you never know, you may get a decent interest. Good luck running it and good job outrightly explaining what can and can't be done. That'll be saving you massive headache in the future.

In other words, as long as you have no trace of the custom graphics in your level, you would be okay.

Flight of the Yoshi

Enjoy. I made a level for my own contest on SMWC and so you guys get it here to. I'll actually have the chance to win too.

No, 10 points for each category:

Creativity: /10
Difficulty: /10
Appeal: /10
Functionality: /10
Fun: /10

Overall: /50

Comments:

-----------------------------

Creativity: Did you take the original SMW and bend it to form new, creative puzzles, clever areas, and tricky obstacles?

Difficulty: Is the difficulty just right? Is it not insanely tough, but at the same time, not insanely easy?

Appeal: Does the level look nice? Are there any graphical glitches?

Functionality: Does the level work properly? Are there any retarded places that are unfair/can kill the player too easily?

FUN: Is your level FUN OVERALL?

That's the format we used for our judging.

Keep in mind I have not played your level as I write this.

You say you only had room in the tileset for one lower-right tile? It doesn't look like there's too much graphical usage in that area. To me it just looks like you were lazy with the room.

Now, if you have a mix of graphic sets in such a way that you have no more room, then that's half okay but would it really have been hard to fit in another 8x8 tile or two for proper floors? You could've even put the tiles in the BG file. You're not using one as it is...

When SNN and I did this we set both deadlines for submission and a deadline for ourselves to be done with judging. You really should have set one for the judges because it's been over two weeks since the contest ended. The judging period has been longer than the submission period...

Hey, second place. Not bad. I didn't think I'd get that high but then again, I had no real opinions on the level on SMWC where it couldn't truly be judged so who knows. Maybe it would have done nearly as well there if I hadn't been judging and could've gotten it scored.

A couple things I wanted to say about my level from the verdicts I read:
-I honestly forgot to add in the Midway Point. I knew where it was going to go and everything and just forgot.
-The 3-up moon at the end was just there for the heck of it, like a reward for beating the level. It's only one level so it would only be of use if you played the level again.
-Originally there was going to be a Big Boo fight while on the flying Yoshi but Big Boo and flying Yoshi can't be together because the sprite memory settings cause Yoshi to disappear. I also couldn't put him in a different room and send Mario and Yoshi to the room because you can't leave the flying Yoshi room unless you exit the level or drop off the bottom of the screen.

FirePhoenix0: Playing through your level again, I don't think a midway point would really that be necessry since it's not really a difficult level. But I assume you would add the midway point just before you get the Yoshi?

Correct. It was going to be right near the pipe leading to Yoshi but somehow I forgot to add it and a pipe for the midway entrance.

Not sure where I'm going with this right now but feedback about palettes and design would still be nice.

I see what you mean with the pipes. I'd have to draw my own tiles for them if I want to put them into the ground more, something I don't have experience with in SM. As for the piping that juts out, I just though of a better way to do that by extending the ground instead and creating a morph ball tunnel with that.

Also, there is rain already. If you look carefully you can see little dots overlaying everything. That's FX1 rain for you.

Edit: Here's a new comparison of the area with the rain on and off.

I don't play a lot of Sonic but those look pretty good.

I have some new shots from my Super Metroid hack to show off.

Landing site.

Showing off the new design for the Morph Ball pickup. The Morph Ball is the yellow one and it flashes between light and dark yellows.

New Super Missile, Power Bomb and Speed Booster tiles.

We're finally inside! And we can't go down there!

Ooh, Missiles... (new Power Bomb door colors as well)

Comments? Criticism?

Those tiles (along with Speed Booster and Super Missile tiles) are used in every tileset. If you modify them in one set, they will be modified in the rest of them. There isn't any other way to change that either, as the game only allocates one tile for displaying what type of tile it is.
