I'll play around with the keyhole some. The chains should be easy enough to change around as well. And what's wrong with a Chips Challenge reference?
----------------------- Ten minutes later... Any better? The chains can get darker yet if needed. I'm going to start actually making the level soon. I've also been thinking about just moving the layer 2 tiles to an actual background instead. A cool thing to do too would be draw sconces and use the candle generator in the background. ____________________ |

Quick question, what SMB3 pipes are we using? Those aren't FuSoYa's pipes from what I can tell. I wish they were also organized a bit better in the map16. They're rather haphazardly placed.
What would be the difference between using these pipes and FuSoYa's pipes? ____________________ |

I thought that might be it. I don't think I've ever encountered them in anyone's hack before though so it threw me off. ____________________ |

I saw the YI Piranhas on SMWC. Those are really nice. As for the background, that is realistic!
On the subject of pipes again, I'll support a GFX change for them. In fact, I'd made modified GFX pipes for my first hack but if we're aiming for a YI-ish style then they'd be no good. I'm not volunteering to draw some though. ____________________ |

Sorry to hear that. From what I remember you had a lot of good graphics drawn too. ____________________ |

Nice to see that you've decided to continue going through with the project. Just the other day I was chatting somewhere about how you guys were supposed to be fixing it up from suggestions gathered in the thread a year ago. It'll be nice to see where you take the project now. Good luck! ____________________ |

Ain't nothing wrong with trying to make some custom graphics. I tried my hand at it with some pretty good results. First I tried redrawing the SMW Cave tileset because I dislike it for whatever reason. Now, I'm drawing my dungeon graphics for this hack as well.
Oh, yeah, I still am working on my level, just really slowly though because I have a Super Metroid hack that's my main focus as of now and another small project, plus life in general. ____________________ |

Yeah, just wait until New Years for the next release. It's only two weeks away. Don't bother with Zero Fission when Double Helix is around the corner. ____________________ |

I agree. It would only be natural for a hack with the name Tower of Spatula to take place at least half in the tower itself.
I still haven't done much on my end. SMW hacking is more of a side project for me while I mostly focus on my Super Metroid hack. I'm trying to work when I can though. ____________________ |

I've mentioned it a couple times now that I'm doing some Super Metroid hacking. I guess you guys hadn't seen anything yet so here are a couple shots from since I started (that means some are old by now).
Work is going steadily. I'm at Brinstar right now. Crateria isn't finished but I think I've decided to make the rooms as the flow of the game goes on. ____________________ |

True. Or like in Metroid Prime's case, the game was named after the final boss which you only see at the very end. (though you can read a few scans about it earlier on) ____________________ |

Well since Mario isn't the main character, we don't need to worry about how he would've gotten to the island. I say pulling a Cave Story wouldn't be a bad idea. ____________________ |

Drewseph mentioned to me that I should pull the Save Stations out of their rooms and after a little figuring the loading stuff out, I now have Save Stations in large rooms a la Redesign. ____________________ |

Note: This is not my hack, I merely created this fix for the game.
I finally decided to fix this thing once and for all because it's annoyed me how much trouble it gives everyone, myself included. So here is a public bug-free version of SFI for anyone interested. It has been thoroughly playtested, even going so far as to get 100% in 44 minutes just to see that no bugs pop up with 100% runs and speed runs. Fixes include: -Removing the enemies from the blue Kraid room that used to crash. -Changing the doors so that you bypass the Giant Metroid room. Something causes the game to crash when going through the door on the left. I think the reason was explained in another thread but I don't remember it. As a general warning, DO NOT LOAD A SAVE FILE FROM YOUR SHIP. If you do, you will be unable to continue your file. This is an error from the first version of the patch and I didn't take the time to look into it because it's not a gamekiller if you choose to avoid the circumstances that cause it. That and I have no clue why it does that... There you all go. Enjoy SFI now without the random glitches. Any additional bugs you find, I'll try to look into them but I didn't see anything in my playthroughs. EDIT: How dumb of me to forget the zip file : http://acmlm.kafuka.org/uploader/get.php?id=32 ____________________ |

The blue Kraid room used to have Rinkas in it and something about them being in there would cause the game to crash.
The Giant Metroid crashing was somehow a result of me fixing the Kraid room. I had to make an impromptu fix for it. I'd have preferred to have kept the Metroid room if possible but with no source for the reason it crashed, I didn't know what else to do. ____________________ |

I got a load of homework this weekend and tomorrow I'm out almost all day. I should really be doing some right now but I'll get to it later.
And so begins this weekend's episode of Procrastination. ____________________ |

Here's an update on the graphics I'm doing.
Ignore Luigi, the blue and the snowflakes. I'm using my graphics in a small side project as well as for ToS. I have so much free graphics space I was able to draw overlapping tiles for the spikes and chains. You can also see in the BG the sconces I drew for the candle flame sprite. ____________________ |

Yeah, I'm working on it. I'm going to have to do some changing around to get them right because right now they use the same palette as the foreground and chains. Therefore I have to find a way to get them darker somehow, most likely by moving them to another palette and redrawing the colors on there. ____________________ |
