This is my first post on this forum. Some people already seen me on IRC, but it isn't a reason for not introducing myself here.

So I am TheKinoko. (you can learn what 'kinoko' means in my signature )

I started NSMB hacking a while ago after discovering videos of edited NSMB levels on Youtube, that inspired me to download the NSMB editor and give it a try.
I didn't have to seek hard to find a forum where I could discuss about NSMB hacking. I just followed the link to this forum I found on Treeki's (old) webpage.
So I hope I'll enjoy discussing about NSMB hacking, and possibly other stuff, here.

Ah yeah, sorry for having missed that. In the future I'll try to read better before posting

Always wondered why, when using Lakitus in your custom NSMB levels, they appear silently, and even throw Spinies silently?

The same problems can be noticed with Skelerex's.

The culprit of that silence is the 27th byte in the first block of the level header. This byte determines which additional sound set will be used along with the default sound set.
That makes sense. For a normal level without Lakitus, you wouldn't store the Lakitu sounds in memory, would you?

So here are the possible values I could find for this byte so far, as well as the extra sound sets they enable:
- 0x00: found in unused levels (none?)
- 0x07: none (found in most levels)
- 0x09: Tower/Castle sound set (Skelerex's, fire balls...)
- 0x20: Bowser sound set (W1 castle boss room)
- 0x22: Lakitu sound set

This byte isn't a bitfield, ie it isn't possible to use more than one extra sound set.
So if you want, for example, to use both Lakitus and Skelerex's, you must tolerate that one of them doesn't have the proper sounds

Yes it can! All you need is imagination.

For example, one of my friends managed to learn her dogs to sneeze!
But I don't know if learning your dogs to sneeze makes you earn more stuff in the game... anyway it's funny.

That'd be even funnier to learn real dogs to sneeze... but would also be difficult as hell, surely!

So if you managed to learn your (Ninten-)dogs funny things, talk about that here!

One thing that pisses me off on forums is people who write in fucking tiny font, or use a fucking layout that makes their posts unreadable; to an extent my nose touches my screen when I try to read their posts. That usually makes me just ignore their posts.

Another thing that would piss me off if I was distributng software here or on another forum, would be the fucking stupid n00bs asking questions about the most basic things ever. When I see their posts in threads where people released software pieces, I think: "how can continually support those fucking n00bs?"

One thing that particularly pisses me off is when some fucking crappy software will just keep failing and keep the reason secret, throwing a totally unhelpful and useless error message (note that the software does know the reason, but will keep it secret).
For example, when I was trying to install Windows Vista on my computer, the installer kept throwing an error message like "An error occured. Please try again or contact Microsoft." because of some fucking option in the BIOS that was enabled by default whereas it should never have been. I was so pissed off that I just aborted before throwing my computer through the window.

Me too. If those frog coins are useless, then I wouldn't bother getting frog coins.

Guys, let up, english clearly isn't his first language. It's fine if he makes a few mistakes like this.

Agreed. 'learned' instead of 'learnt' isn't a big deal. It's not like he is using '1337speak'.

Posted by Bukkarooo
On an unrelated note, I played nintendogs for a little while but then just got bored with it for one reason or another. I'm also not a big dog person in real life, so I can't say that I've taught any dogs any tricks.

I'm not more of a big dog person than you. I don't even have the game

By the way, I'm pretty sure anyone can learn his dog to lick up peanut butter
but that person who managed to learn a real dog to sneeze deserves respect. I thought it was impossible.

Well, I can't tell about me... it's hard.

But I can say that you may have both New and Retro. I know about a NSMB hack called "New Retro Mario Bros" which is a remake of the SMB levels.

Right. Sweeteners are just chemical shit.

By the way, I recall having eaten crab sticks made of 0% crab and, well... 100% chemical shit

I don't want to sound stupid but... what is Mineyl special in?

I'm asking that just because everyone is greeting him and all, whereas noone cared about my introduction post in this thread

Good, but I don't want to get stomped by Mario.

So where should I go in order to avoid him?

Peekaboo? Nope, ghosts scare me D:

And so I can't avoid Mario? Then my only solution is to get wings and learn to fly
(what, flying goombas DO exist)

I've never heard of him, though. and I kinda missed yours, sorry ^^;

please don't feel left out or anything. noone intentionally tried to ignore your post and such, it's just that there were probably more people active at the time Mineyl posted than when you did

EDIT: Also, welcome, Keiya

Ah, I see... so okay, I'll believe you. Thanks

Basically, you use smileys to represent anything. Like that:
